Shawn Colvin : Steady On 30th Anniversary Show

Shawn Colvin’s debut album, Steady On, was released in October 1989, a stunning introduction to an artist who quickly established herself as a mainstay in the singer-songwriter genre. The album was lauded for its confessional songwriting and well-crafted melodies, and for Colvin’s tender and provocative vocals. Colvin received the ultimate acknowledgement for Steady On when she was awarded the GRAMMY award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. She swiftly amassed a dedicated and passionate fanbase, to whom this album remains very special.

This September, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of this landmark album, Colvin will be releasing a newly-recorded, solo acoustic version. Colvin brings a 30-year lens to her treasured songs, casting new light on the stories she first told as a young artist. Colvin has always been hailed as an exemplary solo acoustic performer and these new recordings are a brilliant showcase for her enduring artistry.

Says Colvin, “Steady On was my first record. I felt so proud because all I ever wanted in my life was to create a record of my own songs. And I did it. I always felt like if I never ever made another record, I would be totally happy with my career and with my output and with what I had done because it was my dream come true.

Now it’s been 30 years since Steady On. I’ve made many other albums since then but this first one is still very dear to me, very important to me. When the idea came about that I re-record the album acoustically I thought it was a great one, since one of the litmus tests I had at the time for all the songs on Steady On was that I be able to transpose the produced demos from my producer and co-writer, John Leventhal, into solo guitar and voice renditions. I performed live as a solo artist, that was the context in which I felt most genuine. So, on this new recording of Steady On, I wanted to celebrate that. Every track is just me and my guitar.”

Shawn Colvin will perform Steady On Acoustic in its entirety in what promises to be a special evening for her longtime Philadelphia fans.

Anthony D’Amato

Produced by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, First Aid Kit) and recorded with an Omaha all-star team of musicians including Conor Oberst and members of Bright Eyes, The Faint, and Cursive, ‘Cold Snap’ is Anthony D’Amato’s most ambitious, incisive, and sophisticated collection yet, with a larger-than-life sound propelled by dual drummers, explosive guitars, infectious hooks, and erudite lyrics. Written primarily during a touring hiatus forced by a broken finger, the songs explore the schisms between perception and reality, projection and truth, who we are and how we’re seen.
The record follows D’Amato’s 2014 New West debut, ‘The Shipwreck From The Shore,’ which was inspired in part by his time studying with the Pulitzer Prize-winning Irish poet Paul Muldoon and earned raves on both sides of the pond, with NPR lauding that “he writes in the tradition of Bruce Springsteen or Josh Ritter” and Uncut proclaiming that his songwriting “echoes with early Bob Dylan.” USA Today declared that the album “strikes every right note,” SPIN praised the way he “turns heartbreak into cheery folk,” and Entertainment Weekly said the music “calls to mind Simon & Garfunkel’s more amped-up moments.” Songs from the record collectively cracked more than two million plays on Spotify and turned up on ABC’s hit series Nashville, while the album earned additional love everywhere from the New York Times and WSJ to NY Mag and Billboard. D’Amato hit the road hard for a year straight to promote the album, touring on three continents and sharing bills with Ben Folds, Josh Ritter, Shawn Colvin, Rhett Miller, Justin Townes Earle, Bleachers, and more along the way.
