NEW BEARD is a real band from Brooklyn. A really good, rockin' creative band, with beards and a tuba. This band cannot be put it into one specific box. It just wouldnt be right to do that to do that to a prog-master drummer, a mysterious blues guitar wizard, a junk-loving girl, and a hobbit with the voice of an angel. And a tuba.
Led and fronted by counter-tenor singer and composer Ben Wigler, this band is the sequel to his previous band Arizona which achieved significant success after relentless touring with bands like the Band of Horses, Derek Trucks, The Slip, Dead Confederate, and the Indigo Girls.
After Arizona, with a more focused lens, Wigler teamed up with his childhood friend and drummer phenom Tony Waldman to get his new project rolling. Some friends from an adjacent avant-garde group suggested they invite notorious tuba-rocker TubaJoe Exley to be the low end instead of a more predictable electric bass. At the band's sold-out debut in Manhattan, the trio met the kind, hairy, soulful and single-named lefty guitar shredder Yazan and asked him to join them. This freaky Brooklyn-stew of bearded characters then took immediate refuge in a cellar under a dive bar in Williamsburg and tirelessly cooked up an epic LP called NEW BEARD CITY.
A sequel to their successful and radio-friendly EP "Moment of Peace", "New Beard City" picks up where Arizona's acclaimed "Welcome Back Children" left off. With influences from Elliot Smith to Megadeath, this massively orchestrated album was tailored by Gustav Ejstes of the Swedish band Dungen. Ejstes and New Beard crafted a beautiful and powerful record which delightfully rolls from Indie rock to prog metal to swing to Japanese folk music with joyous fluidity. After summoning the backing presence of an entire orchestra of the most diverse and creative instrumental voices from the Brooklyn scene (including New Beard's newest member, the sax-blasting Maria Christina Eisen), Shoulder Tap records' New Beard City now sets the scene for their live show as they hit the road and trip the heavy fantastic with this powerful
and unique debut LP.
Reid Paley Trio
Approximate Hellhound is the latest album from the REID PALEY TRIO. Bluesy,
jazzy, rock noir with a swing all it’s own. Ten staggering tunes from “one of
America’s best and most underrated songwriters.”
Belted out with a pitch-black sense of humor and an alarming eloquence by
Brooklyn’s own apocalyptically original and internationally acclaimed singer
songwriter and his white-hot trio.
APPROXIMATE HELLHOUND follows the explosive and critically acclaimed
REVIVAL (produced by the legendary Eric Drew Feldman of Captain Beefheart,
Frank Black, P.J. Harvey, et al) and the much lauded solo debut LUCKY’S TUNE
(produced by mythic rock deity and Pixies mastermind Frank Black a.k.a. Black
Alongside Paley and his 1955 Gretsch, Approximate Hellhound features
the animal magnetism and frightening charisma of Mr. Eric Eble on the
Czechoslovakian upright bass, and Mr. James Murray working that trap kit.
Among other things, Reid Paley also co-writes songs with Black Francis/Frank
Black. Some of these collaborations have appeared on Mr. Black’s albums
Fast Man Raider Man, Honeycomb, and Christmass. Mr. Black also recorded
a version of Paley’s “Take What You Want” from Hellhound that appears on
the single Everything Is New and his album Snake Oil. Paley also produced,
arranged, and played guitar on Mr. Black’s contribution to the Hedwig tribute
album Follow My Voice.
The critically acclaimed Paley & Francis album (Reid Paley & Black Francis on
guitars & vocals, with Muscle Shoals legends Spooner Oldham and David Hood
on piano & bass) was released last year on Sonic Unyon (North America) and
Cooking Vinyl (Europe), and peaked at #4 on the Amazon Roots Rock chart. A
vinyl version from The Bureau is on the way.
Known far and wide as a killer live act, Reid Paley has torn up stages all over the
US and Europe, and has been featured at Vienna, Austria’s Into The City Festival
and the Blues Rules Festival in Crissier, Switzerland.

Les Bicyclettes Blanches
The band formed in the summer of 2005, in Woodstock NY, in a barn of an old mill turned into a Native American ceremonial center, blessed by Tibetan monks. The core of the band is Magnolia Santibanez (vocals/guitar/bass/keys), from Paris France and Mackenzie Miller Parker (drums/guitar/bass) from the Catskills. They have created music together and collaborated with other musicians they have encountered on their tours of the US and Europe. They have recorded 9 albums and can be heard on some radios stations as well as a few compilations from LA Record, Manimal Vinyl, and Winter Records.
