Miss Empire State Open Competitions

Miss Empire State Open Competitions

The Miss America Organization is approaching it's 100th year and New York is here for the party! Since 1921 this non-profit organization has crowned inspiring and talented young women around the country. What started as a swimsuit competition in Atlantic City New Jersey has transformed into the World's leading provider of scholarship assistance for women. While the crown and competition are the most recognizable elements of the Miss America Organization, this is really a full-time job for one incredible young woman. Local, state, and national winners receive scholarships to pursue higher education, a platform from which to promote community involvement, and opportunities for networking and professional skill building. In short, this is not about the crown, it is about the powerful woman who wears it.

The Empire State Open Competitions are three independent shows, each culminating in the crowning of four new titleholders who will move on to compete at the Miss New York Competition on June 8 in Peekskill, NY.

The on-stage question competition is an opportunity for all candidates to take the spotlight in stride and answer question(s) about her stance on issues facing our world today. likened to a short press conference, it is not uncommon for our candidates to have more succinct and well-conceived answers than today's politicians.

The talent competition showcases the dedication and passion for each candidate's craft. There are, of course, the classic dancers, singers, pianists, and actors. But in recent years we have seen a resurgence in new and fascinating performances, from speed painting, to poetry, to jump roping and stand-up comedy. These 90-second show cases are the most entertaining and beloved portion of the competition.

Each year at the Met Gala or the Oscars, Hollywood's elite take to the red carpet, as do our candidates in the final phase of competition. There are moments of glamour and prestige, poses for the camera and smiles for the audience. However, the second component of a red carpet walk is the inevitable interview with journalists, writers and bloggers. Miss America is more than a pretty face, and during the red carpet competition each candidate will be given the opportunity to speak on her personal platform of service; the organization or movement that she has chosen to give her time and energy to support. Candidates have a mere 8 seconds to make a lasting impression.

For almost a century New York has had representation at the Miss America Competition, and with the crowning of New York's own Nia Imani Franklin in September 2018, New York has officially brought home more Miss America titles than any other state. We are dedicated to continuing the tradition of high caliber competitors who represent their home towns, this state, and this country. Join us, for the crowning of the final 12 on March 30, March 31, and April 6. Once you are hooked, come to Peekskill in June to see who takes home the prestigious title of Miss New York 2019.
