Kith + Kin Chorus is celebrating their Season 3 finale by collaborating with Cameron Kinghorn (of Nooky Jones, Black Market Brass) and raising funds for Spare Key, a local non-profit that supports families facing a medical crisis. Led by founder and choir arranger Rachel Ries (of Her Crooked Heart), Kith + Kin's Season 3 catalog includes 4 to 8 part arrangements of Paul Simon, Lianne La Havas, The Kinks, Robyn, Kinghorn's original solo work and more.
Kith + Kin is an uncommon choir that focuses on singing for community good, musical inclusivity and creating new choral arrangements of beloved secular songs. The Chorus aims to nurture a welcoming, joyful environment where anyone who longs to sing in a choir again (or for the first time) can. Members are weavers, doctors, puppeteers, teachers, lawyers and range in age from early 20s to spry 60s. Singers don't need to be able read music or have any theory training as songs are taught with the help of both sheet music and reference recordings. The song material is a wide mix of classic & indie rock, pop, folk and whatever else inspires, arranged for the choir by Rachel. Through this project, Ries has seamlessly merged her rich choral and classical background with her years as a world-touring, band-leading musician. Voices are the original instrument and few things are more unifying than voices, raised together in song.
K + K Chorus gives back to the Twin Cities community by holding season-ending fundraising concerts with the proceeds going to local organizations that strive to make our Cities better, safer, healthier places for all.
Cameron Kinghorn is a vocalist, trumpeter, and songwriter who performs regularly at major venues in the Twin Cities, as well as nationally and internationally. He performs most frequently as the frontman of neo soul group Nooky Jones and as the trumpeter of Afrobeat/Afrofunk band Black Market Brass, and new music from both groups is set to be released in 2019. When Cameron isn’t making and performing music of his own, he can be seen making guest appearances throughout the Twin Cities with local, national and international artists.
Spare Key is a non-profit that supports families facing a medical crisis by helping them secure the financial resources they need to cover housing and housing related expenses. Since 1997 we have helped families "Bounce and not Break" by providing them with the Gift of Time!
