The Del Lords
The Del-Lords are an American rock and roll band that formed in New York City in 1982, founded by The Dictators' guitarist Scott Kempner. The band combined elements of 1960s garage rock with country, blues, and folk influences to become one of the initial progenitors of urban-roots-rock. The band members were: Scott Kempner, Manny Caiati, Eric Ambel, and Frank Funaro.
Though praised by critics as one of the best rock bands of the 1980s, the group was derailed by label mismanagement and a Catch-22 situation at radio. Modeled on British bands of the 1960s that used several singers – The Kinks, Beatles, The Who - Kempner's vision was to create an act featuring four singers, that some said was like an "East Coast Beach Boys".
The band took its name from Del Lord, director of many early Three Stooges shorts. The four Del-Lords studio albums, released between 1984 and 1990 – Frontier Days, Johnny Comes Marching Home, 'Based on a True Story and Lovers Who Wander – were released on CD in 2008 by the American Beat label.
Laura Cantrell's richly expressive musical vision draws upon a deep well of musical and personal experience. Growing up in the country music capitol of Nashville, TN, she was immersed in the music early in life, and upon moving to New York City, found that her abiding interest in country music helped her stay connected with her family roots. She has artfully merged her lifelong affinity for American country and folk traditions with an unmistakably contemporary sensibility. The result is timelessly resonant music that's unmistakably personal and thoroughly original.
In her ten-year recording career, Cantrell has released three acclaimed albums: "Not The Tremblin' Kind," "When The Roses Bloom Again," and "Humming By The Flowered Vine." She has toured extensively in the United Kingdom, Europe, and Ireland, and was a favorite of pioneering British disc jockey John Peel, who called her 2000 album "Not The Tremblin' Kind" "my favorite record of the last ten years, possibly my life." Cantrell recorded several Peel sessions for the BBC from 2000-2004 and appeared on the first Peel Day program on Radio One commemorating the first anniversary of Peel's death.
Cantrell's music has been celebrated in the press including features in The New York Times, "O" Magazine, Elle, and the Wall Street Journal. Cantrell's music has been featured on NPR's "All Things Considered," "On Point," and "Weekend Edition." She has performed on "A Prairie Home Companion," "Mountain Stage," and the "Grand Ole Opry," and appeared on the television programs "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," and the Sundance Channel's "Spectacle: Elvis Costello."
Amy Allison, who hails from New York City, has been lauded internationally as a songwriter and singer of depth and originality. She began her performing career in the late ‘80’s, fronting her longtime band The Maudlins, at Dixon Place in NYC’s East Village. Amy, the daughter of jazz/blues legend Mose Allison, has released 5 critically acclaimed solo albums and 2 as one-half of the duo Parlor James formed with Lone Justice founder Ryan Hedgecock. Her 1996 debut album, The Maudlin Years, on Koch Records, was cited by no less than Elvis Costello as one of his 500 essential albums in Vanity Fair.
Amy has contributed vocals on releases by the Silos, They Might be Giants, Mudhoney, Neal Casal and others. In 2000, Laura Cantrell covered Allison’s “The Whiskey Makes You Sweeter” on her acclaimed debut, Not the Tremblin’ Kind. 2001′s Sad Girl, released in Europe on Glitterhouse Records and on Brooklyn-based label Diesel Only, featured contributions from such insurgent country notables as ubiquitous pedal steel player Greg Leisz, Mike Daly (Whiskeytown), Will Rigby (dBs, Steve Earle), and Neal Casal.
Amy’s next two CD’s, No Frills Friend (2003) and Everything and Nothing Too (2006), both produced by David Scott (the Pearlfishers), were released in Europe by Spit & Polish, and in the US by Diesel Only and Cheater’s World Records, respectively. Her most recent effort, Sheffield Streets, released on Urban Myth Records in 2009 and produced by drummer, Don Heffington, features Elvis Costello, Dave Alvin, Mose Allison and Van Dyke Parks as well as Leisz and other musical luminaries (see home page).

Tammy Faye Starlite, the legendary evangelical chanteuse-cum-provacatuese, has, at last, emerged from her Butte City, Idaho compound. She had been in self- imposed exile there for the past 3 and 1/2-years following the events she refers to as "the Kolossal Kenyan Kommunist Koup of 2008." She has rejoined the citizenry at large "to retrieve our beleaguered -- but still fantastic --country from its current dark, black, days of despondency to promote clean, ivory, fresh-scented values." She cites the historical precedent set by her good friend and personal mentoress, Anita Bryant who confronted with a similar crisis threatening the sanctity of our populace in 1977.
Tammy Faye's concern for our nation came to a throbbing head when the "president" threw his support behind the Militant Homosexual Agenda, and she knew she needed to give herself once again to the American Caucasoids she so desperately loves in order to Save Our Children and to bring back the morality upon which this great country was erected. "Tammy Faye Starlite's Defense Of Opposite Marriage Tour/D.O.O.M. 2012" is her brand-new crusade in which she will try to marry as many gay men as possible in order to preserve the blessed and divinely created institution of marriage and It seemed to work for Marcus Bachmann and, of course, to "take our country back." The inaugural performance is set for Tuesday, October 30 at The Bootleg Theater, 2220 Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles.
She noted that the tour was launching in California as a tribute to Miss Carrie Prejean.* The former reigning Miss California is given credit for coining "opposite marriage," a term, now very much in the common parlance used to describe the sacred union between one whose genitals are external to one whose genitals are contained internally.
To this end, Tammy will perform various sacred, pro-marriage songs, from Tammy Wynette's 1971 classic, "Don't Liberate Me, Love Me" to Cheap Trick's "Surrender." She will also touch on women's issues, as so many ladies seem so unnecessarily angry and unfeminine these days. Tammy wants to restore the holy beauty of womanhood with such songs as her paean to life and fecundity, "God Has Lodged A Tenant In My Uterus," as well as her signature female-oriented song, "Did I Shave My Vagina For This?"
Tammy will be back by a five-piece band under the direction of Peter "Petey" Andrews (Nancy Boy, Miss Evers Boys, JAG, NCIS) that includes drummer and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello & The Attractions, Jack Shit), LA punk rock bassist Ben Edge (Fields of Fire, Broken Needle, Bad Reaction), pianist Alex Burke (Magnolia Memoir, Michael Bublé, Margaret Cho, Second City) and violinist Lisa Germano (John Mellencamp, Giant Sand, Eels, Neil Finn)

Jimmy Ryan and Mark Spencer
For more than a decade, Jimmy Ryan has electrified the Boston music scene with his fusion of bluegrass pickin’ and driving edge rock.
Performing live, Jimmy’s fingers fly across the mandolin like lightning rips through a stormy sky. His flair is energizing, his style unique and the outcome leaves his audience spellbound. A blended perfection of rootsy rock, bluegrass and world music, his invigorating performance displays influences ranging from Bill Monroe to Bob Marley.
Over the years Jimmy has teamed up with a string of talent, creating his own style of alt-country that compliments every one of his musical cohorts.
Born in Binghamton, NY, Jimmy spent his early life attending and playing at local bluegrass festivals. His unique sound and style emanate from playing with such a diverse group of bluegrass fiddlers and pickers, mixed with his love of rock and roll.
Most noted for his left-handed imaginative mandolin playing, Jimmy Ryan’s old-timey voice and masterful songwriting reflect a seasoned musician indeed. He began his professional music career in a punk band Decentz and a traditional bluegrass band Pine Island, but he is probably best known for founding and fronting the bluegrass tinged rock band, The Blood Oranges in the late 80’s. "Years before anyone had invented the label 'alt-country,' The Blood Oranges helped pioneer the style, with Ryan as lead singer and songwriter," claims Miles of Music.
After touring worldwide and releasing three records on East Side Digital, the Blood Oranges disbanded in 1994. Jimmy then formed and fronted the Beacon Hillbillies with mandolin master John McGann, mixing jazz and bluegrass and releasing three records.
In 1996, Jimmy reunited with Mark Spencer to form Wooden Leg and they released a self-titled debut.
Since then, in countless side projects, Jimmy has shared his energizing mandolin talent throughout the indie music scene. His fiery pickin’ is recognized by many in the bluegrass and alt-country circuits, and is sought after by many artists who seek to add his scorching style to their craft.
One of the Jimmy’s most notable collaborations is his work with former Morphine and Treat Her Right frontman, the late Mark Sandman. Together they played the Boston scene as Treat Her Orange, a partnership that would later blossom into the Pale Brothers (and yield the track "In Spite of Me" on Morphine’s Cure for Pain). Both were two talent-laden and interesting side projects that featured live performances but hailed no official albums. You can now hear some of these selected gems on the recently released Sandbox – The Music of Mark Sandman (2004, Hi-N-Dry).
In addition to playing acoustic mandolin, Jimmy also plays mandocello, 5-string and 8-string electric mandolin, all custom crafted since he’s a left-handed player.
In 2002, Jimmy released his solo debut, Lost DiamondAngel, produced by Billy Conway (Morphine, Twinemen) and mixed by Trina Shoemaker, two-time Grammy Award Winner for Sheryl Crow’s, The Globe Sessions.
