Philly Who? Podcast LIVE w/ Mike Solomonov, Steve Cook and more

Each week since May 2nd 2018, The Philly Who? Podcast has told the stories of the doers, thinkers, and performers of Philadelphia. In only a few months after launch, the podcast has garnered praise from Philly Voice, Billy Penn, and Philadelphia Magazine, among other outlets.

On the eve of the show’s one year anniversary, join host Kevin Chemidlin as he sits down with celebrity restaurateurs, Mike Solomonov and Steve Cook. They'll share the story of how they became Philadelphia’s most renowned hospitality duo by exploring their personal journeys to success, how their stories converged as business partners, and the inspirations behind Zahav, Federal Donuts, Dizengoff, Abe Fisher, The Rooster, and Goldie.

After hearing the CookNSolo story, the chefs will be joined onstage by fellow Philly food heavyweights Becca Craig of Cake Life Bake Shop and Jesse Ito of Royal Sushi & Izakaya. These two past guests of Philly Who? will share updates to their stories. Then, all four will have a roundtable discussion about their perspective of the Philly food scene.

Audience members will have the opportunity to submit questions to the guests in advance and will also enjoy a small taste of CookNSolo’s forthcoming restaurant, K'Far.

MICHAEL SOLOMONOV
Michael Solomonov is the executive chef and co-owner of Philadelphia’s pioneering Israeli restaurant, Zahav, and the co-author of three cookbooks. He is the 2011 James Beard Award winner for “Best Chef, Mid-Atlantic”, a 2016 James Beard Award winner for “Best International Cookbook” and “Book of the Year” for his and business partner/co-author Steven Cook’s first cookbook, Zahav: A World of Israeli Cooking, and the 2017 James Beard Award's “Outstanding Chef.” In 2018, Zahav was recognized by Food & Wine Magazine as one of "The 40 Most Important Restaurants of the Past 40 Years". In additions to his duties at Zahav, Chef Solomonov co-owns Philadelphia's Federal Donuts, Dizengoff, Abe Fisher, Goldie, and the philanthropic The Rooster, which donates 100% of its profits to their non-profit partner, Broad Street Ministry Hospitality Collaborative. In June 2019, Solomonov will bring another slice of Israeli food culture to Philadelphia with K'Far, his and Cook's forthcoming Israeli bakery & café. Since 2017, Solomonov and the Israel Ministry of Tourism (IMOT) are partners in championing Israel’s extraordinarily diverse and vibrant culinary landscape.

STEVEN COOK
One of the country's top restaurateurs and co-author of three cookbooks including the 2016 James Beard Award winner for "Best International Cookbook” and "Book of the Year" for his and business partner Chef Michael Solomonov's first cookbook, Zahav: A World of Israeli Cooking, Steven Cook is the co-owner of CookNSolo Restaurants, home to some of Philadelphia’s most distinctive culinary concepts. His culinary mark began with Zahav, the pioneering Israeli restaurant that consistently puts the diverse cuisine of Israel on the Map. In 2018, Zahav was recognized by Food & Wine Magazine as one of "The 40 Most Important Restaurants of the Past 40 Years". In addition to Zahav, Cook co-owns Federal Donuts, Abe Fisher, Dizengoff, Goldie, and the philanthropic diner-style Jewish deli, The Rooster, which donates 100% of its profits to their non-profit partner, Broad Street Hospitality Collaborative. To that end, Cook sits on the Executive Council of Broad Street’s Hospitality & Corporate Council, which oversees the Collaborative’s role to provide meals and essential services to Philadelphia’s most vulnerable citizens. In June 2019, Cook will bring another slice of Israeli food culture to Philadelphia with K'Far, his and Solomonov’s forthcoming Israeli bakery & café. Prior to founding CookNSolo, Cook left his job as an investment banker in New York to return to Philadelphia and pursue a career as a hospitality entrepreneur.
