Urban Pop/ World Music, mixed organically with spices from hasty cities with blends of flavors and sounds from the tropics.
Growing up in a multicultural family in Sweden meant that it was important for my parents that I explored my heritage. My first destination at 6 months old was Havana, Cuba. From there and any other places in the world I have come to learn the meaning of diversity, flavors, smells, history and sound. Knowledge of culture has influenced my work and my way of thinking. Life itself is fascinating and that is what portrays in my music.
“ASTRO-SOUL” That’s how Piper Hays describes her unique musical style. Piper delivers a sound that, as her producer, Grammy Award Winner Matt Ross-Sprang explains, “has moments of cool darkness with a real grown up groove”. Loving anything that has a little “swamp” in it, she felt right at home recording in Memphis. Influenced by artists as diverse as Billie Holiday, Norah Jones and Lead Belley to Led Zeppelin, Amy Winehouse, Shakey Graves and Johnny Cash, Piper crafts her own musical narrative.
Growing up in Los Angeles, Piper always felt a connection to music and the power that it had bringing people together. Furthered by her travels abroad, including time living with a Maasai tribe in the bush of Kenya, and working at an orphanage in the Dominican Republic, she learned and appreciated that music was a way to communicate beyond language.
As an artist always pursuing adventure, Piper headed to Europe with only a backpack of clothes and her guitar. She began playing on the streets of Spain, Germany and England both to meet people and to make money. Attracting a strong following, she was soon performing at cafes, pubs and venues – including the infamous Cavern Club – around London and the UK.
Upon returning to the US, Piper made her way to Memphis. Along with her producer and some of Memphis’s finest studio musicians, she recorded her debut album, “Vagablonde” releasing in January 2019. Recorded at the historic Sam Phillips Recording Studio, Piper found that musical voice that connects and communicates to her listeners. Seeped in the experiences of her travels, she tells stories that touch your soul.
These days Piper spends her time living in a barn in Northern California, always chasing adventure. Writing and performing with her touring band. Piper continues to spread her music and good vibes to those she meets along the way. Take a listen and join the adventure.
Siobhán Chapman is an LA-based singer-songwriter. With a background in guitar, drums, and ukulele, Siobhán finds her influences in surf rock, jazz, and folk. She currently studies Gender Studies at UCLA and is a working musician and writer. Her music is available on SoundCloud and Bandcamp.
Queen Frequency & The Twats is an LA-based progressive rock band whose sound evolves throughout the set, from bubblegum rock, to folk, to punk and psychedelic. Band members Meghan McDonald (vocals, guitar), Haleigh Stopa (drums), Daniel Martin (bass) and Rachel McHugh (violin) find inspiration from a wide range of artists, including David Bowie, the White Stripes, St. Vincent, Deerhunter and Andrew Bird. Look out for their EP in 2019, produced by Freeman Recordings.
