Agents Of Good Roots
Blending together gritty roots rock with a healthy dosage of jazz and funk, the Richmond, VA-based quartet Agents of Good Roots are one of the more popular bands to come out of the East Coast club scene in the latter half of the '90s. Through a relentless touring schedule, Agents of Good Roots managed to cultivate a steady regional following, playing over 200 shows a year on the same circuit that had previously spawned fellow Virginian heavyweights Dave Matthews Band. The group independently released their first two records before signing on with RCA for 1998's One By One; the major-label debut contained the radio hits "Come On" and "Smiling Up the Frown," the latter of which peaked at number two on the Billboard Modern Rock chart. The band followed up with Needle and Thread in April of 2000. Since then, band members have found success in music performance, the recording industry, academia, and medicine. In October 2017, they reunited for a memorial show for their tour manager and spiritual advisor, Jeff Peskin. Agents of Good Roots will be reunited once again this Saturday at The Broadberry!
The Shack Band
What originally started as an organic, impromptu and free-flowing collection of musicians casually performing in the renovated remains of a dilapidated "shack" in Blacksburg, VA has morphed into what is now The Shack Band. Since 2010, things have changed. The band relocated from Blacksburg to Richmond, VA. A true lineup was established, with four members signing on. The songwriting abilities and sensibilities matured and improved. At the start of 2013, the quartet became a quintet with the addition of a horn player adding more complex arrangements and texture to the band's already well-established sound. But, the one thing that never wavered was The Shack Band's intent to wow new crowds with their off-the-cuff, high-energy live shows melding funky rock 'n' roll and soaring harmonies with a strong emphasis on song-writing.
In 2012 & 2013, The Shack Band played 250 + shows up and down the East Coast and as far west as Chicago, while performing alongside a number of national touring acts, including: moe., Moon Taxi, The Machine, Perpetual Groove, The Pimps of Joytime, The Heavy Pets, Assembly of Dust, Everyone Orchestra and Dangermuffin among others. Thanks to their raw, infectious live shows and incessant touring, The Shack Band have seen, felt, and heard the effects of their budding reputation and burgeoning fan base. In February of 2012, they released their first EP, Born & Raised, to a sold-out crowd in their hometown of Richmond, VA. For 2014, the goals are simple yet ambitious: hit the rarified level of 200+ live shows, release their first full-length album, and continue to hone their craft while writing and learning new material.

The Southern Belles
The Southern Belles are Adrian Ciucci (guitar/vocals), Tommy Booker (keys/vocals), Aaron Zarrow (drums/vocals) and Andrew Carper (bass/vocals). Playing a high-octane mix of funky southern psychedelic Rock & Roll, the Belles perform shows and festivals all over the county each year. The Southern Belles road-tested sound has earned them a devout following, with fans traveling far and wide to catch the show. With their upcoming album "In The Middle Of The Night," scheduled for August 2017, the Southern Belles are picking up steam and gaining national notoriety for their original compositions and song craft. Their songs are both fun and moving, with lyrical stories evoking familiar emotions and complex musical journeys.
The Northerners are a brother and sister led Indie-Rock band out of Richmond, VA taking most of their influences from 60’s and 70’s classic rock. The Northerners sound has been described as part nostalgia, part new indie-rock. The siblings have been playing music together since 2012 and have since opened for Lord Huron, sealed a residency at The Camel in Richmond, Va, and Adam Blake (Disney Choreographer) created a one of a kind ice show around The Northerners original music. The newest release from the band has been their single “Boosie Pop” off their upcoming full length album summer release.
VILLAGES is what happens when a lifelong piano player has a midlife musical crisis, teaches himself guitar, writes 70+ songs in a little over a year, and then gets his super talented friends to make them sound cool."It's kind of an experiment that has gotten out of hand," says Justin Paciocco. The band -- known as VILLAGES -- includes a revolving collaboration of some of RVA's most plugged-in musicians: Stephen Lecky (Farm Vegas), Zach Hudgins (Jackass Flats), Corey Wells (Shack Band), James Lloyd Hodges (Avers), and Stephen Kuester (Jackass Flats).
