Donuts Are Forever 13
Donuts Are Forever™ (established in 2007) is Rare Form's annual fundraiser and tribute inspired by the life and music of late producer James "J Dilla" Yancey. The name Donuts Are Forever™ (DAF) pays homage to J Dilla's last album, Donuts, released posthumously in February 2006, when J Dilla succumbed to complications from Lupus. Donuts Are Forever™ began as a celebration of life and the acknowledgement of a prolific music career from fans and music lovers. Now entering its thirteenth year, DAF continues to grow organically, while remaining rooted in paying tribute to one of our musical heroes.
Redefining the word "remix", Detroit Native, Rimarkable is a renaissance woman indeed. A vocalist, lyricist, drummer, producer and DJ, she is a well respected force. She has been a crowd-reading master and rocker of international dance floors for nearly two decades, which has allowed her to share the bill with a host of superstars from George Clinton to Madonna to wowing notable colleagues and crowds on Boiler Room TV. Her unique sound becomes ceremony, with a witches' brew of House and Techno, in a Soul, Funk, and Disco cauldron, built on the fire behind her Detroit and Chicago upbringing.
The first signed artist to Detroit label, Dirt Tech Reck, Rimarkable is the curator & resident DJ for the global event, Everybody Random, and hosts a monthly radio broadcast of the same name on London’s Balamii.com radio station. She resides in Brooklyn, where she owns and operates her creative production company, Rimarkable Things.
DJ Perly is a Bronx-born Puerto Rican Russian American DJ who plays music genres from hip-hop, breaks, and house music, and practices the art of turntablism with passion.
In 2015 Perly entered her first battle in the DMC NYC Regional battle, where she battled against 27 other male competitors. Perly didn't win but her determination and focus never lost hope. Her success began in 2016 where she was one of only few females to compete in a Freestyle Mondays battle where she became a three-time champion. She then went on to the New York City DMC DJ battles, becoming the first ever lady DJ to win a regional US DMC DJ battle, and then winning the 2016 DMC USA title. Unfortunately the next day, 12 hours later, an announcement was made in which there a mix up in score calculations that officially placed Perly in second not first place - becoming the first female Vice Champion. Thankfully, she was given a pass to compete in the 2017 DMC USA finals by the DMC President Tony Prince Sr. after the confusion and mix up that had occurred. As devastated and heartbroken as she was by this mix-up, Perly never lost her hope for winning.
On August 2017, she became the first ever female to win the National USA DMC DJ Championship. No woman had ever achieved that title since the start of the battle in 1985. As the USA champion, DJ Perly went on to compete in the 2017 international DMC World Championships in London, where she placed fourth in the world, thus cementing her name in DMC history as the first American female and only the second female ever to compete at the world level in the 32-year history of DMC DJ battle competition. On August 2018, Perly became the first female to defend her 2017 DMC USA title and placed third cementing her in DMC history as the first female to consecutively place in a DMC National battle.
Perly has also recently collaborated and done brand work with Levi's for their Live In Levi's '18 Spring/Summer Music-style campaign, celebrating diversity and community alongside fellow artists and DJs Janette Beckman, B Plus, Cee Adams, Stretch and Bobbito, and others. Perly has been seen and featured on The Heavy Hitters, Sirius XM Radio, Numark, Serato, Honor 6C Pro, and Levi's Fall/Winter'18 market launch event.
DJ Perly has played along side and or opened for Africa Bambambaataa, INVISIBL SKRATCH PIKLZ, The X-Ecutioners, De La Soul, Grandwizzard Theodore, Lord Finesse, Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito, DJ Tony Touch and more.
Most recently Perly was nominated for a Global Spin Award 2017 'Turntablist of the Year'. Perly was also nominated and won DJane Mag 2018 Best Scratch DJ Award.
