For 12 years, Sea of Dreams has been San Francisco’s most creative, spectacular, and lavish New Years event. Created by underground spectacle-makers Anon Events, SOD production is overseen by SunsetSF at the dynamic Concourse Exhibition Center. Sea of Dreams has become the perfect connection of high-end talent, top-tier performance-art and decor with underground support and energy. Drawing much of its inspiration from the Burning man community, the vast majority of the audience comes in costume and the entire venue is crammed with art of all kinds. Past acts include Thievery Corporation, Santigold, Bassnectar, String Cheese Incident, Ozomatli, STS9, Ghostland Observatory. Balkan Beat Box, Modeselektor, the Yard Dogs Road Show, The Dresden Dolls, Adam Freeland, Bassbin Twins, Beats Antique, Gaudi, Tipper and Freq Nasty.
Gogol Bordello's Trans-Continental Hustle, the group's American Recordings debut, is perhaps the most ambitious undertaking in the group's already remarkable decade-long career and it's the result of an inspired, year-length collaboration with famed producer Rick Rubin. Gogol Bordello is arguably the hardest working -- and hardest rocking -- group of our discordant new century, maintaining a touring schedule and an onstage energy level that would send the average combo running for the emergency room. While putting out several critically acclaimed Gypsy Punks and SUPER TARANTA! albums, the intrepid band has literally traversed even the farthest corners of the globe, building a substantial world-wide fan base via gigs and festival appearances throughout Eastern Europe, South America and the Middle East, along with stops in Australia, Western Europe and in their adopted U.S. homeland. Their encounters and adventures, as well as the band members' own immigrant histories, fuel the subversively upbeat story-songs on Trans-Continental Hustle. Front-man and lyricist Eugene Hutz spins out scenarios that are, by turns, hilarious and heartbreaking -- from the outsider experience of gypsies in his native Ukraine to the struggles and celebrations of Brazil's favelas. It can be said that Gogol Bordello has been representing the voice of all minorities all at once, a voice that comes from a real, poetic and deep place. Along the way, Hutz looks for common threads while embracing each of his character's defiantly unique identities, all of which reflect some facet of the frequently flying bandleader himself.
Friend and fan Tom Morello had suggested that Rubin check out the band, whose rollicking bonfire-like live performances have become the stuff of legend, featuring a veritable rock and roll army of musicians and dancers. Band members and audiences alike are driven to frenzy by the charismatic Hutz, a skinny, exhortative figure who combines Joe Strummer's politicized fervor with Mick Jagger's elastic-limbed sex appeal. But Rubin wasn't just interested in the band's well-documented energy, he was drawn to its central unifying power, the songs. As Hutz recalls, "Rick asked me to check out the new songs, to see where I was heading. I got very excited precisely about that. Songwriting was always my religion. For Rick, it is all about the soul entity of the song. That's the way I look at music too. When people were talking about Gogol Bordello, they superficially mentioned just about anything -- from our energy to the fashion and the fucking socks I wear -- Whereas Rick was all about the songwriting. He said, let's put it in the front."
For the band, that became a rigorous but rewarding process, working in the studio with Rubin in between tour dates. To make things even more interesting, Hutz, who had made New York City his home and long been a fixture on its deejay and band scenes, decided to relocate to Rio de Janeiro. There was, as one might imagine, a woman involved, but he was also drawn to the overall feel of a third world nation about to meet the first world on its own terms. His friend Manu Chao, with whom Gogol Bordello has toured, showed Hutz the lay of the land; one cachaca-fueled evening during carnival is recounted on "In the Meantime in Pernambuco," set in the city known for the frevo sound, performed by string or brass combos that bear a strong resemblance to gypsy bands.
"I was in New York for 10 years," says Hutz. "But I was always enchanted by Brazilian music, always had Brazilian friends, Brazilian girlfriends, everything was kind of quite pro-Brazilian. It was calling me from a long time ago. And once I met up with Manu there, I was also able to see an unknown side of it. Everybody knows about samba, but nobody's ever heard of frevo!, which is a completely unique, maniacal form of music from Pernambuco. I started meeting musicians with him and I basically fell in love with the place. So I said, send my shit over, I'm staying! I wrote most of the record there, coming back there from long tours and reflecting and looking at all the authentic beauty that Brazil had to offer. And that doesn't mean it starts with the rhythms of the samba -- no, it's all textured in. Until I became part of that landscape, the writing did not begin. It's like a deeper study of Eastern European and Latino American connection, which is always a very strong emotional connection."
Latin America was clearly a focal point, but Hutz logged in a lot of miles elsewhere before he touched down in Brazil: "I had material I wrote in New York, Siberia, Morocco, Ukraine, Hungary, Turkey. When we were in Turkey I had the chance to see how the gypsy population lives there. I knew how they lived in the Ukraine, and it's very similar. Then I was in Latin America and was able to see all the favelas and go into that world, find friends there and see their way of life. And once again see that's where all the poetry of the world is living. That's where it's coming from. Trans-Continental Hustle is this quest for solidarity among these world ghettos and their relentless energy."
Trans-Continental Hustle was recorded in Los Angeles with Hutz and longtime band-mates Oren Kaplan (guitar), Sergey Ryabtsev (violin), Yury Lemeshev (accordion), Thomas Gobena (bass) and Pedro Erazo-Segovia (percussion). The album also introduces drummer Oliver Charles. Hutz, who originally emigrated with his family from Eastern Europe to Burlington, Vermont, continues to explore the immigrant experience on songs like the tough-minded "We Comin' Rougher (Immigraniada)," which intersperses memories of his own family's journey into a broader saga. Says Hutz, "You talk to Pedro or Sergey or me and you have that song. It's about the dehumanizing traumatics of it, the insanity of the effort it takes to carve out your place in another world." He also addresses the plight of gypsy outsiders on "Break the Spell" and those caught in the middle of ethnic clashes on "When Universes Collide." Hutz doesn't shy away from love songs either, starting with the Romeo and Juliet-style drama of "Pala Tute," a rousing sing-along number that has become something of a band signature since the group performed it in 2007 with Madonna during the worldwide Live Earth telecast. (Madonna also persuaded Hutz to star in her directorial debut, Filth and Wisdom, and licensed a passel of Gogol Bordello tunes.)
"It's the first time on a GB album there are so many love songs," admits Hutz, "so it's kind of a transcontinental love hustle too. That's the parallel plot. The way I've been living, all the transcontinental romancing, all the insane long-distance of it all, added up into this crazy reservoir of feeling. And finally, I felt some kind of internal freedom to speak confidently about this mileage of joys and devastatios. like "Rebellious love" and "My Companjera."
The irresistible, anthemic "Pala Tute," explains Hutz, is "derivative of a very old gypsy song that I heard from my relatives. It sounds like a song you would hear at any pomping gypsy party, but it's not. I wrote that song and completed that song and made it what it is. Every gypsy traditionally has ambition to write a song that's going to eventually be an anonymous song: No one is going to know the fucking name of who wrote the song, it's just so good that everybody sings it. So that's my shot at it, making an addition to the standards. And guess what – 'Pala Tute' already is performed by gypsies in Turkey, Brazil and Serbia!"
Anonymity clearly won't be an issue for Gogol Bordello any time soon. With Trans-Continental Hustle, the party-starting group will be encouraging and inciting even more of the world to passionately sing along.

Shpongle's Quixotic Masquerade

With over 80 years experience collectively Simon Posford and Raja Ram are more than qualified for the exploration into the unclassifiable music frontiers they have ventured into; 'SHPONGLE' is a new world of traditional sounds, acoustic guitars, Moroccan drums, Turkish operatic singing, cello, double bass, backing vocals and silver flute blended together with the computer wizardry of Simon Posford's studio production.
Simon Posford (aka Hallucinogen) has long had a reputation as the, 'Hallucinogenius' a imitable pioneer in sound experimentation, from his seminal first album, 'Twisted' which reached No.28 in the French charts selling over 50,000 copies worldwide, up to his recent Millennium hit, 'Mi-Loony-Um' with its up-to-the minute modem melodies. His international fan base has flowered from country-wide to world-wide in the last ten years, since his humble beginnings at Youth's Butterfly Studios in Brixton, this year alone he has played over 16 sell out gigs around the world, each with a capacity of over 1500 people, in Australia, Israel, New York, Pittursburg, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Moscow, Geneva, Montreal, Tokyo to name just a few. In Tokyo he has received a lot of TV and press coverage for their ambient project, 'Shpongle' which has intrigued the Japanese audience with its international blend of traditional world music and modern musical mastery.
Raja Ram, is the innovative sonic co-pilot producing alongside Simon and providing inspirational artwork for the album covers and the website as well as his unmistakable flute solo's in C Major. A founding member of the band Quintessence in the sixties Raja has many years of band experience in the music industry. Not only a band member but also the creator of TIP Records along with their infamous party sound and energy, he is not only a brilliant flautist but the inspirational man behind the 'Shpongle' concept.
Shpongle has been a working project since the release of the first album in 1998 filtered out into the underground in which Twisted Records is so renown for its dance music, having sold 30,000 copies without any noticeable press coverage Simon and Raja are now ready to hit the world with their unique sound and have been on a mission to express themselves since finishing the album over the winter, Raja has been playing a series of 16 parties in Brazil as well as tours in Japan and Simon playing all across the globe including his recent appearance in Tokyo. Now finally the UK has a chance to catch up on this worldwide phenomena with the forthcoming release of their second album, 'Tales of the Inexpressible' with its further explorations into diverse sound production they are ready to unleash the multiversity that is 'SHPONGLE'.
The Glitch Mob (Exclusive DJ Set)
What started out as a partnership between friends, each sharing a similar and unique vision for the future of electronic music, has evolved into a kaleidoscopic sound that can only be described by referencing The Glitch Mob name. Selling out venues from coast to coast, the band quickly became a favorite at venues such as Coachella, Red Rocks, and Lollapalooza with their visceral, innovative performances that paired the best of dance music with the backbeat of hip-hop. With a sound that's more of a constantly mutating concept, members edIT, Boreta, and Ooah delivered their first album release in 2010, Drink The Sea, and evoked a voyage into the unexpected – including sonic waters previously unexplored by the band itself.
Trentemoller (Exclusive DJ Set)
When his debut album 'The Last Resort' was released in 2006, Anders Trentemøller already had established his name as one of the greatest talents of electronic music.
The Copenhagen based Danish producer and multi instrumentalist started out with a number of yet classic single productions. In February 2005 Berlin producer and DJ Steve Bug released the Trentemøller 12-inch 'Physical Fraction' on his brand new label Audiomatique. It became one of the summer anthems of 2005 and was followed by three releases on Bug's main label Poker Flat: 'Polar Shift', 'Sunstroke' and 'Nam Nam'. Trentemøller's fresh sound and quality production gave a new twist to the upcoming minimal techno-sound and consolidated his reputation as one of the most interesting producers of the year.
To expand his horizon and show the world another side of his musical personality he worked on his debut album 'The Last Resort' (2006). The 13 instrumental tracks together form a musical story, almost like the soundtrack of a movie. 'The Last Resort' struck a chord with new audiences all around the world and became a international hit and earned a number of music awards as well as the 'album of the year' in various magazines. In 2007 followed two vocal singles taken from the album: 'Always Something Better' (featuring Richard Davis) and 'Moan' (with Danish singer Ane Trolle).
In the summer of 2007 Anders started a live tour: 'Trentemøller Live in Concert'. For the first time Trentemøller and band (Henrik Vibskov on drums and Mikael Simpson (guitar/bass)) performed tracks from the album 'The Last Resort' live on stage, with spectacular visuals provided by videodirector Karim Ghahwagi. The tour included festivals like Glastonbury (UK), Melt (Germany), Lowlands (Netherlands), Roskilde (Denmark), followed by his first USA concerts.
In October 2007 the double album 'The Trentemøller Chronicles' was released: a kind of Best Of, which contained Anders' personal selection of his best songs which were not included in the debut album ‚The Last Resort' and remixes for artists like Röyksopp, The Knife and Moby, as well as some new and exclusive songs.
Trentemøller continued touring in 2008 and released the third single from the album on Audiomatique: the instrumental 'Miss You'. This was followed by a live CD with tracks taken from the show at the Roskilde festival in 2007.
In 2009 followed Trentemøller's remix for the first single of the new Depeche Mode album 'Sounds Of The Universe'. 'Wrong' was released on the official remix EP in April 2009. The Trentemøller remix for Franz Ferdinand's ‚No You Girls' was released in 2009 and has been nominated for a US Grammy award. A month later Trentemøller presented his first mix compilation on the new label 'hfn music'. 'Harbour Boat Trips 01- Copenhagen' consisted of a collection of Trentemøller's personal favourites from the past four decades.
One of the highlights of 2009 surely was headlining Roskilde Festival 2009, where Trentemøller performed a show in front of more than 50.000 people. The concert featured lots of guest musicians, performers and extraordinary visual effects designed and built by Henrik Vibskov and his crew.
And now, in 2010, there's 'Into The Great Wide Yonder', Trentemøller's second artist album. The follow up of 'The Last Resort' show an artist that's willing to take risks, find inspiration in new places and move beyond the sound of his previous album. Trentemøller: 'Of course I didn't want to make the same record twice. That would have been boring.' Instead he just started to collect new ideas, without thinking too much about the direction the music would take him: 'The only thing I knew was that I'd want the music to be more organic, warm and not typical electronic sounding'.
Compared to the intimate electronic mood pieces of 'The Last Resort', the ten tracks on the new album indeed have a rather indie rock sound, with a lot of dynamics, distorted twang-guitars and synths alongside four melodic vocal songs might be one step ahead of his previous work. While the album is released end of May an extended live tour around the world will start in autumn 2010.
San Francisco's ambassadors of gypsy rock, Diego's Umbrella captures California's cultural multiplicity with enthusiasm, humor and decadence. These urban, gringo mariachis have performed more than 1,000 live shows across the U.S. and Europe. The band's lively, unforgettable, heavy-hitting stage show has visually and aurally captivated diverse audiences from all walks of life. Influenced heavily by flamenco, klezmer, Eastern European and Latin sounds Diego's Umbrella has introduced the world to a new kind of popular music: Gypsy Rock. They possess a pop sensibility and punk rock energy with sounds reminiscent to that of Gogol Bordello, Devotchka and Muse.
While the origins of Diego's Umbrella date back to the 2001, with the collaboration of founding members Vaughn Lindstrom (acoustic guitar, vocals) and Tyson Maulhardt (electric guitar), they officially hit the scene in 2005 with the release of their first full-length album Kung Fu Palace. Violinist Jason Kleinberg and bassist Kevin Blair came on board early in the project, and the 6-some was rounded out by Ben Leon (vocals, guitar) and Jake Wood (drums) in early 2009. The Group has released 3 albums including Viva la Juerga '07, Double Panther '09, and a host of independent recordings. They have been featured in major motion pictures, Network Television, and numerous documentaries, in addition to countless worldwide radio and print. Currently, they are in the studio working on a new EP to be released later this summer. Viva la Juerga!!!
Realistic Orchestra is composed of many of the San Francisco Bay Area’s finest musicians. Collectively, their studio and live credits read everywhere from Ratdog and Santana to Zion I and Lyrics Born. The band has performed live at many of the Bay’s top music venues and festivals such as; Yoshi’s, Elbo Room, The Independent, Jazz at Pearl’s, The Mystic Theater, SF Jazz Festival, San Jose Jazz Festival, Fillmore Jazz Festival and North Beach Jazz Festival, as well as the Levitt Pavillion in Pasadena, CA.
The instrumentation of Realistic Orchestra is based on a century old classic ensemble known as the “Big Band” or “Jazz Orchestra” which includes 13 horns and a rhythm section of drums, upright bass and keyboards. adding to this foundation is guitar, electric bass, electonics, guest DJs, guest vocalists and the one and only Dublin (The shotgun Wedding Quintet) who’s collaborations with the band are unlike any other Hip:Hop on the planet. These elements, combined with modern electronic influenced grooves, epic arrangements and cutting:edge jazz improvisation, create the distinct and unmistakeable sound of the Realistic Orchestra.
Realistic has also received wide recognition for it’s 10 year run on the first Tuesday of every month at “Jazz Mafia Tuesdays” at Coda in San Francisco’s Mission District, which the band recently decided to put to an end in 2010.
Realistic also took home SF Weekly’s “Best of the Bay” award for Jazz Band in 2004. In 2005 Realistic started presenting various tribute shows which occur many times a year around the birthdays of musical legends, past and present, which have grown to be sold out shows as well as being awarded Best of the Bay for “Best Live music Weekly night” in 2006 and 2007. Recent tributes have included the music of James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Prince, and most recently Michael Jackson. Guest vocalists featured have included Joe Bagale, Kim Nalley, Chris McGee, Emily Schmidt, Sonya D, Seneca, Soulati and Infinite.
Realistic Orchestra is led by Adam Theis who is also the principle composer/arranger of the Jazz Mafia’s Hip-Hop Symphony “Brass, Bows & Beats, and co-leads The Shotgun Wedding Quintet and Hip-Hop Symphony, Brass Mafia and Supertaster. Adam is most notable for being the 2008 recipient for the prestigious Gerbode-Hewlett Grant for Jazz composition. With the commission Adam arranged the 50 piece one hour long symphony, “Brass, Bows & Beats”, combining elements from the 10 years of development he has been involved with in the San Francisco music scene. “Brass, Bows & Beats” premiered to sold out crowds in April of 2009 at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, and has since been performed at major festivals across North America, such as the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl, Montreal International Jazz Festival, and the Newport Jazz Festival.
Realistic Orchestra has released three full length albums to date, “Live at Bruno’s”, “Living Loops”, and “Symphonies From Down the Block”, on Jazz Mafia Recordings. All of which have received critical praise.
Vau de Vire Society
Spawned from the depths of San Francisco's thriving Dance and Circus sub-cultures, the Vau de Vire Society has ravaged and titillated live entertainment, causing jaws to drop in awe and garnering admiration around the world. This Avant-Cabaret community consists of classically-trained dancers, some of the nations most acclaimed acrobats, aerial artists, contortionists and circus side-show acts, an array of unique fire-performers, a handful of gifted thespians and a barrage of the most enticing go-go's.
Attending a Vau de Vire Society event is akin to stepping into an interactive Circus where audience and performer become a single rhythmic force. Together we create lush art-filled environments providing all in attendance a safe-haven to indulge fantasies of running away with the circus… if even for the night.
Quixotic, conceived by founder Anthony Magliano is an ensemble of artists from various disciplines including aerial acrobatics, dance, fashion, film, music and visual f-x. This inventive group of artists goes beyond the limits of any specific art form, challenging traditional perceptions and creating a total sensory experience unlike any other for its audience while exploring infinite possibilities of movement, sound and multimedia.
Pumpkin is not like other DJs. He isn't bound by genre, tempo or playing the latest and hottest tracks. Instead, he finds a familiar thread in songs from multiple genres, styles, and eras, and weaves them into a sound that is all his own.
After starting his first band in 5th grade, and playing on the Sunset strip before he was old enough to drive, it wasn't until 2004 that he discovered house music and began the process of transitioning from musician to DJ. In 2006 he was asked to join the LA based DJ and underground event crew Pocket Underground, and since then has become a mainstay at some of the largest, most innovative festivals in the country, including Coachella, Lightning in a Bottle, Art Outside & EDC.
Pumpkin's quirky remixes of familiar classics create a sense of dance floor sentimentality that crowds revel in. From Peter Gabriel to The Muppets, Blind Melon to folk songstress Tina Dico, Pumpkin digs deep when selecting a song to remix and reinterpret.
Equally at home in a dark warehouse, a packed nightclub, or sunrise at an outdoor festival, Pumpkin is a master at reading the crowd and adjusting his unique selection to turn any dance floor into a big ol' puddle of lovesauce.
Since 1995, Christian Martin has been exploring electronic music from one end of the earth to the other; from full-moon parties in the deserts of California to the thumping, dark corners of the London club scene. Christian followed his love for spleen-rattling bass to San Francisco in 2000, where he met up with the now legendary dirtybird crew. The dirtybird BBQ was the brainchild of the four original members: Christian & his brother Justin Martin, and friends Claude VonStroke and Worthy. They had a personal mission to change the landscape of San Francisco house music by throwing an epic free party in the park, based on their new signature sound.
In 2003, with nothing to lose and everything to gain, Christian bought a massive yet necessary sound system. This set the standard for a new era of die-hard dedicated DIY producers, all with productions based on heavy bass-lines, smiling faces and dance floor delights.
Ten years later the original dirtybird crew remains fully intact and as close knit as ever - traversing the globe, releasing records, and throwing the best parties in their wake.
When it comes down to all the press and hype, his name says it all. He is Worthy. With an in-depth knowledge of production, mixing, and performance, Worthy has the insight to play for his audience, cultivating intense positive energy on the dance floor that can only be portrayed as superhuman. His sound can be described as organic breakbeats with a mix of future house, 80’s, booty bass, and techno. As Carl Cox said, "The Worthy sound has always been powerful, rocking, funky, bass-driven music at its best, and for me this is the new wave in house music." Worthy has received the recognition of major producers who have played his tracks including Sven Vath, Diplo, and Richie Hawtin, among many.
From salty aired islands to dark club basements, Worthy pays reverence to the traditional form of classic house while tripping off the mark and sinking into the euphoric less-charted territories of booty-clapping bass. Touring the globe, Worthy has performed at renowned venues like Hive in Switzerland, Sankeys in the UK, Electric Pickle in Miami, and Mezzanine in San Francisco. Beloved by his fanatical devotees, Worthy has drawn huge crowds to catch his heart-palpitating, sweat-inducing sets at festivals like Ultra, Love Parade, and Burning Man. In 2011, Urb Magazine named Worthy one of the Top DJ’s To See at Burning Man, along with M.A.N.D.Y., Andy C, Soul Clap, Seth Troxler, and The Crystal Method.
Growing up in Washington DC, Worthy was inspired by the early American rave scene. Upon moving to New York in the late 90’s, he was exposed to artists like LTJ Bukem and Stacey Pullen whose music inspired him to play records across multiple genres, from techno and breaks to hiphop and drum n’ bass. In 2001 he swapped coastlines, moving to San Francisco to pursue his music career. He team up with Claude VonStroke as well as fellow east coast brothers Justin and Christian Martin to create the prodigious outdoor party, Dirtybird, which quickly became an institution and a requisite destination for die-hard Bay Area and international fans. Dirtybird Records hatched from the popularity of these parties in 2005, and since then the label and parties have enjoyed tremendous success fueled by the obsession of their cult following.
Plaza De Funk
Plaza De Funk has been a staple in the dance community for the past 5yrs & it looks like nothing will slow his way to the top of the music world. Since moving to London in '05, he has released award-winning records receiving huge support from the likes of Fatboy Slim, Elite Force, Plump DJs, Rico Tubbs & Black Noise. ‘Got The Funk’ on West Records and ‘Back Home’ EP on Mantra Breaks both received the ‘Sureplayer’ status in DJ Mag, his ‘Do It’ record was licensed on the recent Global Underground mix by the Plump DJs & the track ‘Push ‘n’ Pull' was played several time on Radio 1 by Annie Mac & Annie Nightingale as well as getting ‘Single of the Month’ in IDJ. The Italian doesn’t quite stop there though. In '08 he was nominated for 2 of the categories at the Breakspoll awards; Breakthrough Producer and Breakthrough DJ. Plaza walked away from the ceremony clutching the Best Breakthrough Producer award and hasn’t had the chance to look back since. In the past 2yrs Mr Funk has played clubs & festivals around the world & back again stopping off in Australia, the US, China, Russia, Latvia, Belarus, endless dates across Europe & of course back home in the UK at Glastonbury, Glade, Chew The Fat!, Fabric & Ministry of Sound
Syd is one of the longest running fun creators in the Bay Area dance music and underground arts scene. He's been called a "Renaissance man of the West Coast scene", and with good reason. The founder of the legendary Opulent Temple collective, best known for their premierre sound stage at Burning Man, Board Member and key producer of the San Francisco LovEvolution event (formerly known as LoveFest & Love Parade), founder of Opel Productions, throwing club events and 'parties with purpose' in San Francisco for 10+ years, a child psychologist with a Doctorate in transpersonal psychology, a music producer, blogger on social issues, and of course - a DJ.
On the DJ tip, Syd is one of the West Coast's top talents, consistently being voted in the Top 10 San Francisco Dream Team poll, and playing the biggest events in California party land. Playing a versatile range of electro house breaks, and tech funk,, he's been personally tapped to open and close for the varied likes of Underworld, Moby, Tiesto, Stanton Warriors, Armin Van Burren, and the list goes on. Syd knows what to do in any situation to bring the universal vibe of dance music. His debut single 'Who Are You' on Groove Quest, recently cracked the crowded Top 30 electro house chart on Beatport. His sets are known for walking the fine line between the gritty and the pretty, and he has a musical range seldom seen in party land.
MoPo (aka Robbie Kowal) is one of America's most versatile,
experienced and flat-out joyous party rockers. His decade long mission is to 'put the party back into the party', and to connect the casual music fan with the hard core dance music mavens; proving that music is more than just beats. San Francisco's bootleg indie remix partypusher, is known for a rare ability to play exactly the right music for the moment and an expertise with a wide variety of genres that he seamlessly melds into a coherent blend. Since breaking out as a rare groove Dj in the 90's he has spent the 21st Century using eclectic club styles, break beat, trip hop and tech funk as a backdrop for his genrebending experiments. From a near religious love of funk and hip hop, to a lifetime study of rock and roll to a massive aptitude for latin, reggae and other outernational formats, MoPo incorporates bits and pieces of music culture into electronic edits that slam the dancefloor. As a backdrop, he creates, edits or chooses only the biggest baddest breaks, hooks and drops to create a sound that truly slams. To the dancer, MoPo is a breath of fresh air, often transforming a room into collective song or crowd chant that connect the audience to the DJ.

He's also been among the first DJs to play many a rock festival including an unprecedented 6-year run at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival and the first DJ sets ever at Gathering of the Vibes, High Sierra, Berkfest, Caribbean Holidaze, Mid Atlantic Music Experience, and Rothbury festival. He even played at Govt Mule's legendary "Deepest End" show, called one of the Top 10 shows of the Decade by Jambase. A live turntablist for the indie techno circus The Mutaytor, MoPo has sat in with Parliament-Funkadelic, Galactic, Rebirth Brass Band and BLVD. He has opened for live music legends like James Brown, Maceo Parker, Widespread Panic, String Cheese Incident, Femi Kuti, Sheryl Crow,
Spearhead, Jurassic 5, Isaac Hayes, Blackalicious, and Pendulum.
After studying sounds and recordings techniques in a musical institute in the South of France specialized in Jazz , Mozaic familiarized himself with studio environment, recording musicians, working in post production projects. Thanks to these experiments, he started his own electronic musical project in 2008.
Today, Mozaic has released EP on various labels such as Resopal Schallware, Mimique Records, DBH Music, Ion Music. He deals with a lot of influences and moods, registering all kinds of sophisticated and hypnotic atmospheres, whether House, Techno or Tech House, as Mozaic focused on the groovy and deep side of electronic music.
