A Stranger and a Friend
A Stranger and a Friend is a collaboration between singer-songwriters Josh Schicker and Lindsay Allward. Based out of Atlanta, GA, the duo focus on creating music that is stirring and intimate while remaining accessible and beautiful.
Schicker’s musical career started in the mid-90’s fronting alt-rock bands in his native Michigan. Since going solo his focus has been on a more refined sound and vocal presentation. His solo efforts have found placements in indie film soundtracks and some international radio play. Most recently, Schicker’s ballad, “No Place Like You”, was featured in the romantic drama, Old Fashioned which recently released on DVD.
Allward, also a native of Michigan, came into singing more recently and song-writing is a natural expression of her buoyant personality. Allward’s ukulele keeps an element of levity to the set list while her cutting harmonies add drama to balance the scales. A strong melodic focus is at the forefront of their combined efforts resulting in a blend of honest and playful lyrics over lush acoustic music.
The duo plans to record their first album in the coming year and are focused on building a catalog of songs worthy of their audience. Combing the drama and vocal interplay of The Civil Wars and the sincere heartfelt yearning of The Swell Season, A Stranger and a Friend is carving out their own unique sound adding a little smirk to the mix. There is much more to come from this compelling duo.
A Stranger and a Friend have brought their folk-pop sound to Eddie’s Attic several times in recent years and are eager to return to the stage with some of their very best musical friends.
Emmy Law is a folk pop singer-songwriter from Gainesville, GA. Since moving to Atlanta in 2016, she has become heavily involved in the local music scene. She’s performed in some of the city’s top venues, including Eddie’s Attic, Red Clay Music Foundry, and the Music Room at Smith’s Olde Bar. She’s also made a name for herself in Atlanta’s open mic scene, winning the night and advancing to the final round in a few of the best the city has to offer: Eddie’s Attic, EOP at the Red Clay Theater, and the 99x Original Series. In 2014, Emmy won the John Jarrard Foundation songwriting contest, which was judged in part by members of the Zac Brown Band. As part of the contest winnings, Emmy opened onstage for some renowned Nashville songwriters, and says it’s been one of her favorite moments in her performing career.
Emmy released her debut EP ‘Fairyland’ in August 2018 after running a successful Kickstarter campaign. In describing her single ‘Fairyland,’ NeuFutur Magazine states, “Law’s vocals pull double duty in that their breathiness weaves a rich narrative while the overall harmonies laid down work perfectly with the larger instrumental complex.” The music video for the single has appeared on various media outlets, including LATV, Music City Arts Nashville, Indie Wave, and IndiMusic TV.
