On August 17, Fruition will release a new EP Fire. A fan favorite among their live shows, the band have shared a video for their scorching live version of the title track, which they performed at Red Rocks last year. They'll return to Red Rocks August 18 for a show with Railroad Earth, and hit the road for an extensive fall tour to support the new EP.
Three of the tracks on Fire are from the same sessions in which the band recorded their latest album Watching It All Fall Apart (LoHi Records) with acclaimed
producer Tucker Martine (First Aid Kit, My Morning Jacket, The Decemberists), with the 4th track, "New Colosuss," being mixed and engineered by the band's own Tyler Thompson. The first single "Baby Let's Go" will be released on August 10.
Fruition will be donating the proceeds from the first 3 months of digital sales and streaming for the tracks "Dirty Thieves" and "New Colosuss" to charities closely tied to the subject matter of each track.
"Dirty Thieves" was written by Jay Cobb Anderson as a result of the band’s van being broken into while playing a show at Brick & Mortar in San Francisco’s Mission district. The song references being woken up to the area's homeless problem by the sound of shattered glass, feeling inconvenienced by the theft at first, but upon looking closer, seeing it as another human struggling to survive. It imagines them using what was taken to somehow improve their desperate situation that is all too often overlooked. Keeping in spirit with the songs message, initial proceeds will go to San Francisco’s Community Housing Partnership who’s mission is to help homeless people secure housing and become self-sufficient.
"New Colossus," composed by Kellen Asebroek, uses lyrics taken from Emma Lazarus' poem of the same name which is engraved on the base of the Statue of Liberty. In turn, the first 3 months' proceeds will be donated to the National Immigration Law Center. The band also recorded a live version of the track in Brooklyn for NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest while on tour earlier this year.
With more festivals and a show at Red Rocks on the horizon, the band have announced a new run of headline dates for the fall including stops in Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and New York City and more. They will be joined at various dates by Daniel Rodriguez of Elephant Revival and The Lil Smokies. In November, the band will return to the Pacific Northwest for their first headline shows since they sold out New Year’s shows in Seattle and Portland. Yak Attack will open those 3 shows.
Daniel Rodriguez (of Elephant Revival)
Colorado singer-songwriter, Daniel Rodriguez, turns to his acoustic guitar for memorable, melodic hooks to accompany his poetic and contemplative folk songs. Boulder Weekly refers to Rodriguez’s voice as “a timeless folk voice, deep and hearty, weathered but comforting.”
With over a decade under his belt as one of the founding members and lead songwriters of the transcendental folk band, Elephant Revival, Rodriguez is well-versed in the Americana tour circuit. Before going on hiatus, after their third headlining Red Rocks show in May 2018, Elephant Revival had released six albums and performed countless shows and festivals across the nation as well as overseas.
Needing to fill the musical void that might have become following Elephant Revival’s hiatus announcement, Rodriguez almost immediately headed out on tour as a solo artist. He’s been chosen as main support for bands such as Fruition, Mandolin Orange, Josh Ritter, and John Craigie in addition to performing at numerous festivals throughout the summer.
