OH BOY! Buddy Holly Tribute

OH BOY! is a four piece band located in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Reprising his role as Buddy Holly, Hetfield says that his adaptation was inspired partially by Hal Holbrook’s one-actor play “Mark Twain Tonight.” Hetfield was similarly influenced by a show about former President Lyndon Johnson.

“Those people were historical figures, but they were not musical figures. But I liked the way the actors made their characters’ persona come alive in a way that made you feel a personal rapport with them. That is what I have been aiming for in this show.”

In addition to Hetfield’s adaptation of Holly, the other members of OH BOY! - Barry Eli, Ken Schleifer and Mike Long-do a remarkable job of approximating the Crickets, Buddy Holly’s band. They perform authentic note-for-note versions of the music of Buddy Holly and the Crickets. Not just the hits, either; they present an entire overview of Holly’s career. Others who figure into the story include Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper.
