Sidekickin’ with Julian Velard

Julian Velard’s lifelong dream is to be a Late Night Talk Show Sidekick. The problem is he doesn’t have a host. Every show Julian plays Paul Shafer to a different David Letterman in the hopes of finding his soulmate. Sidekickin’ follows a traditional Late Night Show format and features performances by stand-up comedians, musical guests and games, in-depth celebrity interviews and more. At the end of each show, Velard and his guest host perform a musical number together - all in hope that Julian will find his true host-mate, the perfect Johnny Carson to his Ed McMahon, or James Corden to his Reggie Watts, for people under the age of 40.

Julian Velard’s musical stylings and comedic timing have made him a fixture on The Howard Stern Show and NPR’s Ask Me Another. His music initially took hold overseas nearly a decade ago, where praise from The Guardian, Time Out London, and The Sunday Times led to a UK major label record deal.

He’s toured internationally as an opening act for Jamie Cullum, Paul Carrack, and Goldfrapp. He has also performed alongside a host of comedians including Will Ferrell, Reggie Watts, Paul Scheer, and Wyatt Cenac. Velard has written scores of songs for the internet and beyond including the viral sensation “HP Joelcraft” which was featured in Mashable, The AV Club, and Nerdist.

His 2017 album, “Fancy Words For Failure,” was profiled in The Wall Street Journal. Velard has two releases due out this year: the debut release of “Comfort Zone”, his comedy and music collaboration with Brooke Van Poppelen, and an EP of songs about fatherhood called “Sad Dad” .

“Shorter observations provide the grouting between excellent extended anecdotes. She paints gut-wrenchingly chilling pictures…. and it is a testament to her skills that it is gut-bustingly hilarious too.” - The Evening Standard UK

"Ms. Kirkman knows how to deliver a one-liner, but her inclination is to linger in the telling of a story. She digs into a subject, embroidering it with jokes at various angles.” - The New York Times
