Granite to Glass

Granite to Glass

Granite to Glass is a Brooklyn, New York based songwriter often joined by a collective of musicians. He creates music with an intimate, yet powerful, and haunting, yet uplifting sound.

For several years Jon Kohen was a solo act. In 2015, after recording a solo acoustic EP of three songs called "Live to Two," he sought to record an EP with orchestral string players, and contacted his longtime friend, violinist Lilly Innella to help create the ensemble. In doing so, the two formed a studio orchestra of 14 string players to record string parts, over the original "Live to Two" acoustic tracks, creating the new and complete EP, "Curse the Darkness, or Create a Light."

Jon decided that this was enough of a departure from his solo music, that he needed to rebrand, and changed his stage name to Granite to Glass. He and a group of dear friends/string players joined forces with composer Derek Weagle to create an album with a full orchestra and choir. The album, "for when you need this", was released on March 10th, 2017, and features over 50 musicians.

Granite to Glass continues to play live shows as a solo act, with electronic backing, and/or with a string quartet, depending on the budget of the show.

He is currently working on new music, and a music video.
