Loah is Sallay Matu Garnett, an artist of Irish / Sierra Leonean origin who grew up between Maynooth and West Africa.
She’s embarking on an ambitious solo career, combining her unique blend of genre-bending Afro-soul which she calls “ArtSoul”. She has released several stunning singles/videos (“The Bailey”, “Cortege”, and “Take It” with Irish producer Bantum) followed by her debut EP This Heart in summer 2017.
She's sold out numerous headline shows in Dublin and abroad, appeared at Electric Picnic, Body&Soul, Longitude, Cork Jazz Festival, Sounds From A Safe Harbour, and the Dublin Fringe Festival, the CCI in Paris, and performed with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and Glen Hansard in the National Concert Hall, Dublin Castle, and Vicar Street. She has also collaborated with Hozier, Villagers, and Bantum, amongst others.
Loah made her first US appearances at SXSW and in New York at the Irish Arts Center in the spring 2017, followed by the release of This Heart along with a string of high-profile festival appearances. She wrapped up the year with an Irish and UK tour. She kicked off 2018 in the Barbican Centre, London for the Imagining Ireland series, and a string of sold-out festival appearances. Now, she’s back in New York for one night only on October 20 at Rockwood Music Hall.
Louise Bruton of the The Irish Times raves, “The Irish-Sierra Leonean artist creates soulful songs that either get you moving or thinking, taking you from darkness into full-blown carnival mode. She brings together all of her musical influences – soul, punk and indie music -and weaves in tales of heartache, womanhood, friendship and her own heritage….
Not only has she left behind a trail of awe from every Festival set she’s performed this summer, she recently made it on the page is a Vogue as part of “The Celtic Cool Girls Guide to Dublin.”
