Darilyn Castillo was born and raised in Montebello, New York. At the tender age of 5, she auditioned in her school and was selected to sing a song in Swahili with Yolanda Adams for an audience of 3,000. This was her first professional performance. She realized that singing, acting and dancing is what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. She began to study the performing arts at The Helen Hayes Theater in Nyack, NY. At Suffern Middle School, she began her classical music studies, which continued at Suffern High School. Darilyn also learned to play the piano and began composing her own music. Darilyn has also appeared on The Apollo Theater stage as a runner up for Apollo's famous Amateur Night. She has also performed at The New World Stages in “New York Soul” and was 3rd runner up.
Her resume includes many roles in straight dramas, musicals, and concerts. Darilyn received outstanding reviews in The New York Times, The New York Post, and Backstage for her exceptional performance in The New Haarlem Arts Theater Company for the musical revue of “Ain't Nothin' But The Blues.” Darilyn also received great reviews in Edublogs for her performance on the straight drama “A Sunday Morning In The South.” Darilyn is currently a Junior and theater major at The City College of New York.
Darilyn recently was cast in a Regional Theater production of “All Shook Up,” as Lorraine, at The Millbrook Playhouse. The show is set to go up in June 2012. She is thrilled to be taking on a role with a professional theater company and is excited for the journey ahead. (Keep eyes open for more information regarding ALL SHOOK UP)
