Everyone knows that jazz is a cool, intellectual and rarified art form that can only be appreciated by true devotees.
For ROSEMARY LOAR, jazz is a smorgasbord, a feast of incredible tastes and textures. In The Quando Swing, Rosemary makes it her business to give her audience the opportunity to sample each and every one of those exotic flavors. There is laughter and fun, poignancy and reflection, and an evening of wonderful music.
As Rosemary progresses through her program, you find yourself reminded of the light effervescence of Ella Fitzgerald, the smoldering intensity of Billie Holiday, and the haunting tones of Peggy Lee. Rosemary can flit into a light and bouncy “word-scat” a la Annie Ross, lay back soulful and sultry (“I Ain’t Got Nothin’ But the Blues”), or hypnotize with a pretty love ballad (“Prelude To A Kiss”). And Rosemary adds one more flavor that is uniquely her own - a quirky and spontaneous sense of humor.
Expect the unexpected. Like an arrangement that imagines what Duke Ellington’s take would be on Puccini’s La Boheme. And her original arrangement of ‘Since I Fell for Ice Cream’ is proof, once and for all, that Catholics girls are indeed the most naughty.
The Rosemary Loar of the theatrical stage also loves stories, and she takes you beyond the music of her songs to reveal the human stories that lie beneath. Throughout, she addresses her audience with disarming ease. Equal parts singer, musician, and comedienne.
Rosemary Loar in The Quando Swing offers a truly satisfying evening of great music and entertaining theatre. - Robert W. Atwood, former contributing editor, ATTITUDE MAGAZINE
