Deep Night with Dale Live
On Wednesday, November 14th, Deep Night with Dale returns to The Slipper Room for another live episode of the acclaimed talk show. “This is a must listen for anyone interested in the art of comedy”–AV CLUB. Host and self-care guru, Dale Seever (James Bewley) welcomes a panel of talented guests to explore the powerful role of comedy can play in times of unyielding darkness. On this night, Dale opens up a portal on comedy writing with his guests Laura Krafft, Mike Sacks, Clare O’Kane, and Fumi Abe. With music and witchcraft throughout by Cornelius Loy on the theremin, and ritual movement from The Deep Night Dancers (96B Dance Theatre).
About the Host
Your guide through the Deep Night is Dale Seever. In his black turtleneck and with an magical owl-shaped amulet around his neck, Dale invites audiences to join him for an hour of regrets, revelations, and rising stars. Dale has appeared across the country before enthusiastic crowds in bars, basements, and comedy festivals of every size. He is portrayed by James Bewley, a Brooklyn-based comedian and writer. Bewley began his career in sketch comedy in San Francisco, trained at Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles, and has been a fixture of the New York scene for the last ten years. He is a recurring performer on Running Late with Scott Rogowsky and can be found mucking up the works on the current season of The Special Without Brett Davis. As Dale he has performed at SF Sketchfest, Hell Yes Fest, RSVP at ARLO, Showgasm, and ANT Fest at Ars Nova.
About the Guests
LAURA KRAFFT is an actor, producer, and Emmy Award-winning writer. She has written extensively for television comedies including The Colbert Report, Another Period, The Comedians, and The Wanda Sykes Show. She currently produces and writes for the new season of Murphy Brown on CBS. An alum of the Chicago Improv Olympic and Second City theaters, Krafft also performs regularly at Upright Citizen's Brigade. As an actor, she has appeared on Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Kroll Show, and The Onion News Network. She has also written for Vanity Fair, TAR Magazine, the New York Post, and Bust Magazine.
CLARE O’KANE is a Brooklyn-based actor, comedian and writer from San Jose, California. She performs regularly around NY, recently opened on tour for Chris Gethard and for the band Jawbreaker and can be seen in the new Witch Taint video alongside Dave Hill and Phil Costello. She has performed at High Plains Festival in Denver. She's also performed in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Bridgetown Comedy Festival, SF Sketchfest, Outside Lands and more. Clare has written for Spongebob Squarepants, and has appeared on Viceland and The Best Show with Tom Scharpling. She is one-third of the sketch group Blessed. Her new comedy album Let It Be, is available now from A Special Thing Records.
FUMI ABE is a Japanese-American stand-up comedian based in New York City. His comedy has been featured on MTV Decoded, Vulture, and the New York Times. Fumi recently opened for Ronny Chieng from the Daily Show at Caroline’s on Broadway and was featured in the Daily Show & Friends Showcase. In addition, he was part of the Stand-Up NBC line-up in 2017 and in 2018 as part of the Brooklyn Comedy Festival. He has performed at various comedy festivals across the country such as Devil Cup Comedy Competition, Limestone Comedy Festival, Boston Comedy Festival, and the Audible.com Fresh Voices Showcase at SF Sketchfest. He currently produces and hosts the comedy podcast centered around the Asian-American identity "Asian, Not Asian", which has been UNOFFICIALLY endorsed by Eddie Huang.
HALLIE HAAS is and actor and comedian currently filming the indie feature Asking For It and recently wrapped a role on season three of Search Party on TBS. She can be seen giving Meg Ryan a run for her money in Netflix Presents: You’ve Got Mail at The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, where she has performed characters and sketch since 2015. She has also performed sketch at UCB with her Maude teams Fantasy, A Few Sandwich Lovers, and Monaco, and was a writer/performer on the first two seasons of Characters Welcome. Her one-woman show Masterpiece Classic: Women in Art enjoyed a successful run at UCBT Chelsea through Spring 2017. Hallie can also be seen in the feature film Fort Tilden (SXSW Grand Jury Prize 2014), as well as videos for The New Yorker, Elite Daily, and The Kicker. She has performed with Cleveland Public Theatre, Williamstown Theatre Festival Workshop, Forever Dog Productions and Story Pirates.
96B DANCE THEATRE embodies elements of surrealist movement, absurd humor, and contemporary dance forms. With roots in acting and movement improvisation, the work intends to dissolve barriers between audience and performer in order to create space for collective experience. The mission of the company's creative process is to engage in honest collaboration and conversation. 96B creates visceral works that are unique to various performance platforms, such as theater, film, gallery, and event spaces.
