Roger Guenveur Smith

At Bootleg, Roger Guenveur Smith has presented FREDERICK DOUGLASS NOW, WHO KILLED BOB MARLEY?, PATRIOT ACT, and, with Mark Broyard, INSIDE THE CREOLE MAFIA, distinguished by the LA Weekly as Production of the Year.
His Bessie Award-winning RODNEY KING was developed on the Bootleg stage, and is currently streaming on Netflix.
His history-infused work also includes the Obie Award-winning A HUEY P. NEWTON STORY, which he adapted into a Peabody Award-winning telefilm, CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS 1992, JUAN AND JOHN, THE WATTS TOWERS PROJECT, and ICELAND.
He recently directed Katori Hall's THE MOUNTAINTOP for the MLK 50 Commemoration in Memphis;
his CASA DE SPIRITS, for San Francisco's Campo Santo ensemble; and THE HENDRIX PROJECT, which he devised at Cal Arts and presented at the Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival.
