Michael Stasis is a compulsive songwriter living in Los Angeles. His entirely self-recorded output has spanned the last fifteen years and boasts a variety of odd styles borrowed from his multiple lives in the Pennsylvania woods, New York City, The Bay Area and Los Angeles. Having studied film and sound at the renowned Cooper Union in Manhattan, Stasis is primarily concerned with investigating pop motifs rather than committing to a fixed persona. While this eclectic, almost academic artistic approach has led to confusion among critics, his work is always accessible and he maintains a coveted position in the pantheon of "weirdo" songwriters.
Bored by the monotheistic urges of rock 'n' roll, Stasis quietly worships Campbell's "Hero with a Thousand Faces." But it is not for lack of cohesion. To be sure (after twelve releases), behind the collection of masks is a familiar tone, humorous occult charm and limitless imagination; a palpable style emerges from his "fake pop songs," longing cinematic soundscapes and bizarre poetic exercises.
Pearl Sugar is the synth-pop project of Hartford, Connecticut musician Chris Bugnacki. In his writing, Bugnacki delves deep into childhood memories and dreams to present lyrics that blur the distinction between dreamworld and reality. The stories in his songs are nothing short of cinematic, and the heavy use of synths and drum machines serve as the perfect score for his revelations. The textures and instrumentation Bugnacki employs will undoubtedly bring 80s dance and house music to mind, as well as the melodic bounce of beloved pop ballads of the past.
Bugnacki released his debut EP Alright this past April and has since continued writing and recording in his bedroom.
Dumlords - Smiles for Miles
New Haven, CT indie rock DUMLORDS releases debut LP “Smiles for Miles”
“Smiles for Miles” is the debut LP from New Haven, CT based Dumlords, a project started by songwriter and producer Tyler Lindsay. The 12 track record is a collection of songs written and recorded by Lindsay featuring co-writes and co-production by some of his closest friends and collaborators over the last several years.
The album was primarily recorded at Lindsay’s home studio, “The Treefort.” After 2 of his projects were put on the back burner, he began working on some demo recordings which became the bed tracks of the album.
After months of recording these new songs as well as finishing incomplete tracks from an earlier project called True Blues, the songs were mixed by Lindsay with the help of long time collaborator Tim Capezzone, also done at “The Treefort”
Lindsay states many influences for this record; from the glam rock of David Bowie “Runaway” to the low end knock of early 2000’s hip hop on “Magicland”, he hoped to create songs with a classic feel with a modern and intense sound.
