Blue Moon Soup

In an increasingly homogeneous musical landscape, Blue Moon Soup employs traditional bluegrass instrumentation to create a fresh take on folk. Their innovative arrangements couple seamlessly with evocative lyrical composition to convey a sound every bit as timeless as it is progressive. Drawing on the traditions of rollicking American bluegrass, haunting Celtic melodies, and the beloved and nostalgic folk movement of the 1960s and 1970s, the band gained early success with live audiences in its home state of Ohio before expanding through wide-reaching national tours, festival performances, and album sales.

Since its founding in 2010, Blue Moon Soup has released 3 studio albums packed with high-caliber original content, and with that unmistakable 'Soupy' sound. To satisfy their ever growing fanbase, the band has also released a dozen Live Albums, each capturing the peculiar spirit and texture of a specific night with Blue Moon Soup. Playing alongside acts like The Infamous Stringdusters, Yonder Mountain String Band, The Travelin' McCoury's, Cabinet, Jerry Garcia Band, The Werks, Lotus, and Ekoostik Hookah, the band has proven itself appealing to a diverse array of audiences and demographics.

No small part of Blue Moon Soup’s success is owed to the amiable nature of the men who comprise it. Jon Baumann, Evan Lane, Robbie Marion, and Justin Moon charm both on and off stage. They participate in a variety of activism and charitable causes, and regularly perform to support the people, places, and ideas, about which they are passionate.

Beside an ever growing repertoire of self-authored compositions, the quartet is known to blend quintessential covers, cultured classics, and obscure gems, crafting performances for crowd and occasion. Blue Moon Soup provides a unique high-energy experience sure to excite anyone with a heartbeat, echoing in memory long after the music is done.

From dive bars to concert halls, Blue Moon Soup quickly attracted a fervent core group of fans throughout the broader Dayton area, and went on to augment its burgeoning following by appearing at a variety of regional musical festivals in Ohio and toured throughout the region, making inroads into Colorado, Kansas, Michigan, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Indiana.

In September 2013, Blue Moon Soup release their self titled sophomore album to broad critical acclaim. A follow up to Lonely Mountain, Blue Moon Soup’s first LP released in 2011, 2013's Blue Moon Soup saw the band named Dayton Music Connection's Band of the Year, among other accolades. Although the band’s current primary focus is to broaden its reach in Ohio metro areas, they are crafting a third LP for a fourth quarter 2014 release, and continuing to reach out to new fans; young and old, near and far.
