David Langlois and the Brooklyners
David Langlois was born in Paris, France, where he took up the drum set at age fifteen. He grew up surrounded by Jamaican music in three suburbs of Paris. At nineteen, he was hired as a full-time musician playing all over Europe with a traditional jazz band.
In 2003, after studying various musical techniques throughout journeys in Africa, India and Central America, David moved to New York and has since collaborated with Bette Midler, Paul McCartney, Les Paul…
But his first experience was to show up at legendary Philip Smart’s HC&F Recording Studio on Long Island (without speaking any English at the time) and ended up in the booth to record on a track that Philip was working on that day.
He is known in the gypsy jazz realm as a percussionist, especially in Gypsy Jazz, a style that he helped longtime friend guitarist Stephane Wrembel spread around the world touring intensively. This is where he learned the musette repertoire before bringing it into the Reggae world!
The uniqueness, originality and creativity of David's work has garnered a lot of media attention from NY Times to Jazz Police Magazine. Most recently, he was featured in Modern Drummer Magazine and the Wall Street Journal Culture section.
