VAVÁ is Vanessa Wheeler, formerly of the band LeoLeo. Since gaining attention from her posts on Instagram, she has opened for break-out artists like Lauren Ruth Ward, and has toured nationally with The Dear Hunter and The Family Crest (winter, 2017).
Her music is made of up of subconscious, micro-references to Vanessa's major influences (Brazilian, Black American, pop, rock, and progressive musical genres), which are then filtered through her guitaristic, composer/songwriter brain.
Often difficult to categorize, her music has been called “genre-smashing” and “jaw-dropping” (Buzzbands LA), and “the offspring of musical genes taken from Sia, Florence, [and] St. Vincent” (Blurred Culture).
VAVÁ’s EP “The Other Side” is set for release in early 2018.
With a love for creating and looping electronic beats, bass, synths and vocal chops - GEORGI KAY is a 25 year old British-Australian artist based in LA who has received multiple awards for her original work, songwriting and collaborations over the years.
She has won both an ARIA award, multiple APRA awards and received a Grammy nomination for her song “In My Mind” with Swedish House Mafia’s Axwell.
Her voice has featured in numerous DJ sets worldwide by some of music’s biggest names and she has collaborated with international EDM/dance artists including Tiesto, Kaskade, Lipless, Matt Nash, Faruk Sabanci and many more.
Along with EDM collaborations, GEORGI has also acted in and written for several films and TV series (Jane Campion’s Golden Globe & Emmy Award winning ‘Top Of The Lake’, Alex Garcia’s ‘Residue’ & JD Dillard’s ‘SLEIGHT’ & upcoming feature film ‘SWEETHEART’), often offering her voice and original songs as main titles or featured throughout.
Since relocating to LA, GEORGI’s songwriting skills and capabilities have been recognized by two of the biggest songwriting competitions in the world (International Songwriting Competition & the Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition) where she placed as a finalist out of a staggering 14,000 entries and received an Honourable Mention for her work.
Along with competitions, GEORGI has played local LA big-hitter venues including The Echo, Santa Monica Pier Twilight Concert series, Bardot’s School Night, Harvard & Stone, The Echoplex and many more.
GEORGI has also toured with and supported Ed Sheeran, Tash Sultana and INXS amongst many others both in LA and Australia.
Gathering inspiration from old sci-fi and horror films, elements of deep house, 80’s inspired synths and a love for the weird and the macabre - audiences around the world have been seduced by GEORGI’s hypnotic and energetic live shows, her brooding, husky vocal tones and her honest, symbolic and often ambiguous songwriting – always leaving them wanting more.
Having released multiple singles, EP’s and EDM/dance collaborations, GEORGI has spent the last year writing and producing songs for her debut album – which she plans to release in October, 2018.
Michelle Young and the Collection
Founder of The Box Presents and ROVE, Michelle Young is also a singer-songwriter and poet, whose personal style reflects her love of soulful blues, jazz and Americana, with some pop sensibilities sprinkled in. Her poetry has been published in Local Wolves magazine and past performances as a solo artist included shows with Hotel Cafe, The Spare Room, and Silverlake Sessions.
In October 2017, Michelle reached out to her friends Eric Grijalva (drums) and Zach Villa (acting MD) about helping her to start a band; and Michelle Young and the Collection was born. The live shows and records feature both songs and spoken word pieces set to music.
They announced the band at a show at El Cid in Silver Lake, Los Angeles on October 30th, 2017.
High Voltage Magazine presented Michelle Young and the Collection's Official Debut at the legendary east-side venue The Satellite (Foo Fighters, Beck, Foster the People, Lady Gaga, Local Natives, etc.) in April 2018; they opened for buzzy LA-based bands The Colour Coast and Night Talks. The set featured special appearances by Effie Passero (American Idol Top 24, 2018), Puscie Jones (The Puscie Jones Revue), Cheyenne Jolene (Bodacious Thang), Parissa Koo (Disney's "Liv & Maddie"; For The Record Live), James Byous (For The Record Live; Badwater) and more.
At the end of April 2018, Michelle was asked to perform as a featured artist at Sessions58 at Looking Glass Cocktail Club in London, England. Sessions58 is a weekly music showcase run by Ilana Lorraine (formerly Sony/UK) and Nate James (MOBO nominee).
In 2018, the band is continuing to play shows while also writing and recording their first EP. Keep an eye on the band's Instagram Stories for secret show announcements.
