Rooted in rhythm, Ley Line transcends genres and languages. Dynamic harmonies run like a current through textures of stand up bass, guitar, ukulele and world percussion. Raised on the North American traditions of blues, folk, and soul and inspired by their world travels, Ley Line creates a global soundscape; blending influences from Brazil, Latin America and West Africa
In summer of 2017, the women of Ley Line traveled 3,000 miles across Brazil playing over thirty venues and gathering footage and inspiration for their upcoming album. The visual album to be released in fall of 2018 will incorporate original music and imagery inspired by the natural beauty, folklore and rich musical traditions of Brazil.
Ley Line is the musical merging of two duos. Austinites Kate Robberson and Emilie Basez met twin sisters Madeleine and Lydia Froncek at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in 2013. Since reuniting in Austin in 2015, Ley Line has been weaving together their individual journeys into a collective vision to unite audiences around the world.
Darling West experienced a spectacular breakthrough in their musical career after the release of their second album, «Vinyl and a Heartache» in 2016. They were awarded a Norwegian Spellemann award (equivalent of Grammy), listed on Norway’s biggest radio channels and appeared on the Top 100 Country charts in the US. They have played shows all over the world – among the highlights are several of Norway’s biggest festivals, SXSW in Texas, Americanafest in Nashville, a tour with Sam Outlaw and a support slot for Lucinda Williams. Those are many highlights. They have also had more than three million plays on Spotify, appearing in several influential playlists.
Always ambitious and restless, the band didn’t rest on their acquired laurels. Contrarily, they headed straight into the studio to record the follow-up to «Vinyl and a Heartache». Darling West’s third album, the self-produced «While I Was Asleep», contains ten new songs, and will be out February 16th, 2018.
Although they have added drums, the band stays true to their sound and still plays the sweet americana/country/folk they are known for. Moreover, the new album demonstrates a revitalized Darling West, with more drive in the music and even catchier melodies than before.
Darling West’s career continues to be on the up, and 2018 promises to be their biggest year so far. In January they played three shows at the prestigious Eurosonic music festival in the Netherlands and unveiled the album’s fourth single, «Loneliness». A visit to Folk Alliance in Kansas City coincides with the album release date, and provides a fitting arena for the launch of «While I Was Asleep».
