Carey Strom, a Chicago native, was born with a guitar in his hands and loved the Chicago Blues. However his passion for medicine took him down a completely different path. He met Dr. Michael Duffy, a native of Minneapolis, who had played the horn with subgenre of the Twin Cities typical funk rock sound. These two frustrated musicians later followed their other passion outside of medicine and started the "Docs of Doheny." They have played with the likes of Al Jarreau at the Cedars-Sinai Board of Governors Annual Ball and many other Medical Charities, including the American Lung Association. Their big sound and surgical attire make them one of the most unique and desired bands today
