Akua Taylor

Akua Taylor

Akua Taylor wants to heal the world, literally. She’s an 80’s baby with a love for hip-hop and R&B, from Milwaukee, WI and influenced by groups like Arrested Development, Rufus and Sade. With music that responds to the nightly news with one remedy: word sound power. Using harmonies from her Fisk Jubilee Singer days in college, Akua belts heartfelt storytelling tunes of her own struggles with emotional well-being. Her gritty coming of age in New York City can be heard in the messages. There she sang at Eric Robeson’s Sol Village showcase at club SOB’s and appeared in Gregory Porter’s music video “Illusions.” Akua is also the producer, playwright and actress of “Song Lake” the play set to debut at the Atlanta Black Theatre Festival October 2018.
