Big D and the Kids Table
“There are people who want to be in a band and then there are musicians.” - David McWane
Once in a while a group comes along that decides to make music simply because they have no other choice - they are addicted musicians. For twenty-two years Boston’s Big D and the Kids Table has proven just that, showing they truly are the DIY kings who are ‘Built Up From Nothing’. McWane describes the group as – “Modern American gypsies" and you will feel just that during one of their explosive shows.
Big D and the Kids Table has paved their own way spreading their music to The States, England, Europe, Canada, Mexico, Japan, China, Australia and South East Asia since their beginning in 1996. Starting as a ska-punk band they have released over 13 albums ranging styles of dub, thrash, reggae and their own concoction Stroll: hopscotch, double-dutch, northern soul.
Explosive live shows come from explosive personalities. Big D has always been celebrated as their listener’s friend and equal and their merit allowed has allowed the band to live strong though out many changes in the music world.
“We’re exactly what you need,” vocalist David McWane says, “we want to wake up the masses, remind the people that they’re more than just alive; and make their Mondays into Saturday nights. Lovers of our sound better get ready, because no one's gonna help them in the front row of these coming tour. If you wanna relax – head to the back, because this is gonna be fun”
Senior Discount has played over 250 shows in RI, MA, CT, NH, NJ, NY, PA, and VT, and won the Providence Phoenix Best Music Poll for Best Punk Band two years in a row. We also more recently won the Motif Music Award for Best Pop-Punk Band two years in a row (2017 + 2018).
We've played shows acts as Anti-Flag, Gym Class Heroes, Sum 41, mash-up DJ Girl Talk, Boys Like Girls, The Bravery, Guttermouth, Less Than Jake, The Ataris, Leftover Crack, A Wilhelm Scream, the Street Dogs, Zox, Big D and the Kids Table, Darkbuster, The Swingin Utters, Streetlight Manifesto, The Loved Ones, MC Lars, Suburban Legends, Patent Pending, The Toasters, The Pilfers, and many many more. Senior Discount has also played a couple dates on the Ska Goes Solo tour with the singers of Less Than Jake and Catch 22, while Senior Discount lead singer Chuck Staton has played solo shows with Chuck Ragan (The Revival Tour/Hot Water Music), Dave Hause (The Loved Ones), and Kris Roe (The Ataris).
Our first album "There Were Four Who Tried...", has gotten positive reviews from all over the US (and internationally), including very positive reviews from Maximum Rock N Roll(CA), which boasted, "These guys can rock and scream….a strong full-length," and the revered AbsolutePunk.net, which stated "The band really acts out their emotions….Every track from the album is an anthem to punk rock's principles." Our second release "And That's Goodbye.." received the comment "These guys slay on record and live!" from mash-up DJ sensation Girl Talk. PunkOnline (UK) described the release as having"...a tight knit sound full of innovation."
We also focus heavily on film production, as we've used short films to promote for our shows and releases. Our one full-length film ("VBW Attack: The Senior Discount Movie") was reviewed by The Noise (Boston) which reported "...let's just say that this DVD is gold and that the band, and those with them, have some mighty winds at their sails." The national television network G4 has bought and aired footage from the film. The band has totalled around 60,000 views on their streaming video sites.
Along with video, lead singer Chuck Staton started a podcast called The Chuck and Brad Podcast that focuses largely on punk rock, and has featured in-depth, in-person interviews with members of Bowling for Soup, Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, and dozens more.
Recently, Senior Discount was added to the Hartford Warped Tour date by Kevin Lyman and has just been signed to Paper + Plastick Records by Less than Jake's Vinnie Fiorello and will release their newest album, "The Best Revenge" on July 13th.
Drop Party are an eclectic septet from coastal Connecticut that aim to bring their sound to the people and spread joy. They switch gears seamlessly through ska, rock, jazz, and latin, doing whatever it takes to keep you twisting and skanking.
The sound of Drop Party is both loose and precise; vamping here and navigating a tight horn run there. There are no limits in the band and no boundaries between the band and the crowd. With a lush horn section and a tight four-piece rhythm section, this band is ready to rock any arrangement. Catchy but never cliche, their music keeps you on your toes. It’s a kaleidoscopic blowout that you don’t want to miss.
Drop Party have big plans. This summer they’re gearing up to begin their first album and hit gigs around the region in support of their debut single, James. Expect them at a venue near you, and bring your friends. Everybody's invited to the Drop Party.
