Debut album, 'Sweet Bunch,' out June 15th, 2018 on Spacebomb Records
We're walking too fast to know how much we matter. We're out here shooting at the moon...
For the past year after the release of "Sweet High Rise" Loamlands has been wandering both separate and together, touring and traveling in this band and in others. We've been doing what we love, which is putting the verb play back in front of music. We've been working hard and we've been playing. After recording our first full length and paying homage to the music that gave us our original form, we took and are taking a much needed pause to experience adolescence by touring with bands that both make sense and don't. We are working with people because we love them. And we are happy.
We appreciate the desire for a second record and are in cahoots with folks both on this physical plane and in the spiritual realm to figure out how to make that happen in the next year. For now - we are summoning the brilliance of those that came before us. Studying the B sides of Bobbie Gentry and Scout Niblet and figuring out how to translate our diagnosable ADD journey through this non linear world onto wax for another complete record.
A few years ago I realized that I had the same birthday as Audre Lorde which, of course, fostered the already growing obsession I had with her. I have always been in complete awe of the body of work that this word slinger was able to produce, and recently came across a quote of hers that helped me see that pause is a form of action, which we need now more than ever. Ponder on this with us for a bit and come out and see us on the tours that we take this year.
"Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation. And that is an act of political warfare." -- Audre Lorde

"Even if you don’t know Register’s backstory, you can still hear that Sweet High Rise is a compelling, beautiful, and starkly political record."
"...a lush guitar pop sound that pulls from the late ’70s rock and country."
- Brooklyn Vegan
"It's a narrative-heavy — and proudly queer — record, channeling both the South's folksy past and the crunchy protest music of the modern Merge roster, sporting a genre-defying sound as courageous as the issues breached: institutionalized bigotry, body dysmorphia, the agonies of love and loss. "
"It's a deeply emotional album, peppered with moments of tension, sadness, yearning, joy, and pain."
