Josh Ritter‘s acclaimed 20-year career as a songwriter and musician reaches new heights with the release of his ninth full-length album, Gathering. Along with his loyal bandmates, the Royal City Band, Josh returned to the studio with more songs than he’d ever had before at one time. Reenergized after a recent collaboration with legendary musician Bob Weir (who also contributes vocals and guitar to a song on Gathering) and –at the same time — tired of living in the shadow of his earlier self, Josh felt charged with exploring the possibility of cutting himself loose from his own and others’ expectations. In his words, “I began with an exciting sense of dissatisfaction, and what emerged, as I began to find my voice, was a record full of storms. I still can’t tell what era these stories are from. They feel part roustabout, part psalm to me.”

A songwriter, a musician, a New York Times best-selling author, a painter, a consummate per-former. Josh Ritter encompasses all of these descriptors and more. He is a true artist. One who is not afraid of growing, changing and constantly challenging earlier versions of himself. Here, two decades into his storied career, Josh Ritter is just getting started.

“Sincerity, community and beauty is how I think of Lowland Hum; the sounds of Lauren and Daniel Goans. Thin is the husband and wife duo’s third album since their 2013 debut, further refining their hushed harmonies and aural paintings. It’s a sound that makes them a quiet Sunday-morning favorite.” – Bob Boilen, NPR Music

“In this frantic, fast food, Facebook world, Lowland Hum draws us into a sanctuary where we can really feel, and dare to be human, with all the naked vulnerability that implies. Thin is majestic in its simplicity, elegant in its honesty.” – Joseph McSpadden, No Depression

“Their vocal harmonies are airtight and sweet, their songs shadowy but bolstered by hope and by a shared vision.”
– Matthew Fiander, Pop Matters

In the fall of 2017, they released an EP of b-sides from the Thin sessions and, after supporting Penny & Sparrow on a national US tour, embarked on a six-week European tour. In November of 2017 they released Songs for Christmas Time, a collection of retooled Christmas classics, garnering high praise and top reviews from the Huffington Post, the LA Times, Paste Magazine and others. In the first months of 2018, the band has been touring the US as support for The Oh Hellos’ national album release tour.
