"Toronto-born Warren Hildebrand started Foxes in Fiction in 2005 during his sophomore year of high school as an outlet for experimental tape collages recordings and collages. His first album, Swung from the Branches, was released in 2010 on Hildebrand's own label Orchid Tapes. During the downtime between releasing an EP called Alberto, a split 7" with Benoît Pioulard, and a handful of songs self-released for free on his website, Hildebrand began to focus heavily on running Orchid Tapes, a tight-knit hub for bands and musicians that he's come to know in the time since beginning to release music. Orchid Tapes places a heavy emphasis on community and a policy of free downloads and since it was founded in early 2010, the label has released over forty titles on both vinyl and cassette tapes.
In 2011, Hildebrand began work on writing and recording what would later become his second album entitled Ontario Gothic. The album, which is centered around themes of loss in various forms, finds Hildebrand looking back at the past five years while living in Toronto at the transformative experiences that took place during that time.

"The running theme throughout the album is how I restructured parts of my life in the wake of the death of my brother Drew in 2008, but each song references specific and discreet experiences directly and indirectly related to that happening." says Hildebrand. "The title was something that I'd been holding onto for a long time and thought was evocative and jarring enough to fit the heaviness of what the songs are about."

After meeting while both living in Toronto, Hildebrand enlisted the help of composer Owen Pallett to contribute string arrangements throughout the album.

"Personal loss and dealing with anxiety and depressive issues that I've struggled with my most of my life have played into my music and the way I work for as long as I can remember. Growing up gay and isolated on a small farm in rural Ontario was part of the reason that I got into writing and making music as a young kid, and the isolation and loneliness that I went through because of that helped to shape the conditions under which usually make my best work."
