Uploaded: The Asian American Movement explores a generation finding its voice through new media. Focusing on the increasing visibility of Asian Americans in popular culture since the advent of new media platforms such as YouTube. The documentary brings to light struggles and successes of leading Asian Americans--from both new media creators to long-time industry professionals--in the areas of music, film, and dance. Five years ago, it was difficult to name more than ten recognizable Asian entertainers in mainstream America. However, within the last handful of years, various young Asian American artists have emerged in entertainment with roots in new media platforms such as YouTube. They are taking action into their own hands and redefining how Asian Americans are perceived and valued in society. Filmmaker Q&A after the film
