Mama Midnight & the Sweet Surrender

Mama Midnight & the Sweet Surrender

Mama Midnight & the Sweet Surrender is brought to you by Jennifer Yurth, who has lived, loved, worked and played her whole life in Salt Lake City, Utah. A singer in a few local bands and projects over the years (Stone Empire, Six Feet in the Pine, Williams & Harvard) she has maintained a relatively low profile. But to her friends and fellow musicians she has been the steward of endless gatherings for years. Set in the belly of her living room she has managed to bring together a broad variety of local musicians that she has met along the way to come and play…….just for the fun of it. And fun it has been. Fun for so long, really, that after years she has felt as though she was a keeping a wondrous secret from the world. A secret she now feels compelled to share with you.

You may be familiar with a few local bands from which these players are members or used to be members. The Bad Weathers, Sister Wives, Stone Empire, Hectic Hobo, Balls Capone, Umbrella Brothers, Six Feet in the Pine, Matthew and the Hope, Real Sly, and Sofa Sly. Some of these guys were unfamiliar with one another until weekend after weekend they came to form a rare bond and kinship, born of a mutual love for stellar company, good bourbon and making beautiful music. Now it feels like a family and sounds like a rare machine.

Let’s introduce the stars in this cosmic constellation……Jennifer Yurth on vocals and guitar (She will also be your ambassador for the evening). Callie Reed on vocals and violin. Heather Thorpe on vocals, guitar and bass. Shawn Laughlin on vocals, guitar and harmonica. Golden Hatch on vocals and guitar. Patrick Neville on vocals and guitar. Sam Osimitz on vocals, violin, mandolin, guitar and saw. Eric Peatross on vocals and keyboard. Joshua Stern on keyboard. Tom Marshall on bass. Matt Conlin on upright bass. Aaron McNicol on drums. Todd Johnson on drums. That there is a whole lotta talent!

Though all coming from somewhat different musical backgrounds this group together has formed a sound all their own. It feels as warm as a blanket in chilly weather and sounds as dazzling as a night sky so clear you can practically see every star dancing.

“So turn off all the lights, so I can see the stars, and I will hold my breath and I’ll listen very hard for the laughter in the chest and the beating of the heart….”
