Learn how to be an undeniable performer in the Comedy Business

Barry Katz is an Emmy and Grammy nominated tv-film-record producer, podcast host, and talent manager who helped launch the careers of Dave Chappelle, Nick Swardson, Darrell Hammond, Wanda Sykes, Frank Caliendo, Jim Breuer, Whitney Cummings, Bill Bellamy, Jay Mohr, Melissa Villasenor, Felipe Esparza, Tracy Morgan, and legendary Boston comedians Louie CK, Anthony Clark, Bill Burr, Marc Maron, and Dane Cook. Katz started as an open-miker in Beantown in the 80’s (with Steven Wright, Paula Poundstone, and Lenny Clarke), then ran comedy clubs like Play It Again Sams, Stitches and 50 others, before moving to New York to become a manager and open the Boston Comedy Club (that Judd Apatow and Pete Holmes depict in HBO’s Crashing). After that, Katz moved to LA and brokered 100 tv development deals, created 3 tv shows, and executive produced over 50 different stand-up specials, documentaries, scripted series, reality shows (including 7 seasons of Last Comic Standing)…and in the film business helped Chappelle and Neal Brennan (Chappelle’s Show) sell Half Baked and then went on to produce several films including Employee of the Month (Jessica Simpson and Cook), Good Luck Chuck (Jessica Alba), My Best Friend’s Girl (Kate Hudson and Alec Baldwin), I Killed JFK (about Kennedy’s confessed killer), and Misery Loves Comedy (Tom Hanks, Amy Schumer, and Larry David). Additionally, he produced multiple gold, platinum, and double platinum albums, becoming the only manager/producer to debut a comedy album in the top 5 of Billboards national charts—twice—with Cook. Katz was also one of the driving forces behind the sale of the Emmy nominated Roasts to Comedy Central, as well as the launch of Comedy Dynamics, which is one of the largest independent comedy production and distribution companies in the world. His podcast, Industry Standard, is one of the top podcasts in the world, with over 250 episodes, featuring guests like Kevin Hart, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins, Dr. Phil, Caitlyn Jenner, Modern Family creator/writer Steve Levitan, David Copperfield, and Netflix president Ted Sarandos.
