With "Modern Hearts", Paul McDonald brings a new flavor of alternative rock with southern swagger. An album delivered by a fiery lead vocal and self-penned lyrical prose that brings emotional depth to hooks and honest songwriting.
An Alabama-born and East Nashville-based artist, Paul McDonald has been a veteran of the music scene for a little over 10 years. Paul's unique style of music has garnered international attention leading to major tours and performances around the world with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Zac Brown, Father John Misty, etc. and has independently played festivals such as Bonnaroo, SXSW, Hangout Festival, etc. Appearances on television shows include The Tonight Show, Good Morning America, and Live With Kelly. After years of touring and recording music independently, releasing multiple albums and EP's with different bands, he's launching his first ever solo endeavor. Over the past 3 years Paul has spent writing hundreds of songs and perfecting his own sound. He's finally found his own creative voice with his first full-length solo album “Modern Hearts" - produced by Jordan Lehning (Rodney Crowell, Andrew Combs) and recorded at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC (Band Of Horses, Avett Brothers) and Sound Emporium Studios (Jason Isbell, Alabama Shakes) in Nashville, TN.
"You'll always know who Paul McDonald is, out of a million singers you'll know him. That's so rare. It's such a gift" - Jimmy Iovine
WHEN I FIRST MOVED TO ATLANTA I WAS SLEEPING IN MY CAR AND TAKING ANY OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM. I BEGAN WORKING WITH JAN SMITH. (VOCAL COACH FOR JUSTIN BIEBER, USHER AND COLBIE CALLAT) I WAS TOURING A LOT AND OPENED FOR ACTS SUCH AS ANDY GRAMMER, BEN RECTOR, SWITCHFOOT, DAVID CROWDER AND MANY MORE. I GUESS THINGS WERE PRETTY GOOD! BUT AFTER SAVING FOR YEARS TO BUY STUDIO GEAR AND MAKE A RECORD, MY DREAMS WERE CRUSHED WHEN MY HOUSE WAS BROKEN INTO AND MOST OF MY GEAR WAS STOLEN. ALONE AND HEART BROKEN, I PACKED UP MY CAR AND PREPARED TO HEAD BACK TO MY SMALL HOMETOWN, BLUE ROCK, OHIO. ON MY WAY OUT OF THE CITY, I HAD A DATE THAT HAD BEEN SCHEDULED A FEW WEEKS EARLIER. I DIDN’T THINK SHE LIKED ME, HAHA! UNEXPECTEDLY I FELL IN LOVE, AND AFTER THREE WEEKS AWAY I PACKED UP AGAIN AND MOVED BACK TO ATLANTA TO TRY TO WIN OVER THIS BEAUTIFUL GEORGIA PEACH. EVER SINCE, THINGS HAVE TURNED AROUND. I'M NOW TOURING FULL TIME FROM NYC TO AUSTIN, I SAVED UP TO BUY MORE GEAR AND JUST RELEASED MY NEW RECORD ON JANUARY 4TH, 2018. THE BEST PART OF ALL… I MARRIED MY LOVELY GEORGIA GIRL JUST A FEW MONTHS AGO! CAN’T WAIT FOR YOU TO HEAR THE SONGS BEHIND THE STORY OF MY NEW ALBUM HOME PARK! THANKFUL TO GOD AND THANKFUL FOR YOU!
