Void Where Prohibited

Void Where Prohibited is a 4-piece Mill Valley-based band that plays classic rock from the 60’s and 70’s, plus some songs from the 80’s and 90’s. The band has been performing in the San Francisco Bay Area since the mid-80’s in various venues, ranging from small clubs to larger outdoor events. Void Where Prohibited covers hit songs by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Dire Straits, Eagles, Yardbirds, Doors, Allman Brothers, Doobie Brothers, Hollies, Santana, Zombies, Tom Petty, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Neil Young, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Steve Miller, Van Morrison, and many more. Their enthusiasm for the music engages audiences everywhere.

Band co-founder and lead singer Eric Montizambert’s musical career began with solo acoustic gigs in a Marin County tavern in the 70s. He’s played in various classic rock bands, and co-founded Void Where Prohibited in the 80s, fronting the group on lead vocals and rhythm guitar. Eric has maintained his passion for 60’s-70’s classic rock guitar and vocals, covering everything from southern rock to slow blues.

Lead guitarist and singer John "Shin" Shinnick began playing guitar at age 12 and was first influenced by folk music and later by the "British Invasion" of the 60’s. In a burst of sanity, Shin left his home state of Michigan in 1980 and joined the band as the bass player in 1999. He later switched to guitar in 2004 until taking a break from performing in 2009. He rejoined the band in early 2013 and it’s great to have him back!

The band’s bass player, Sean Silverman, gravitated to the electric bass and stand-up bass after studying the piano and clarinet as a pre-teen. He played bass and toured with the Bill Graham-managed classic rock power trio AUM. Sean has played in clubs in Chicago and toured for 10 years. In the Bay Area, Sean’s been a freelance musician in many genres of music.

Drummer Peter Herbert has been a drummer since his teenage years, playing many styles and formats, from jazz combos and jump swing bands, to big bands and rock groups. He’s played percussion for musicals and theatre, Brazilian carnival bands, such as Escolla Nova de Samba, and even Middle Eastern percussion belly dance performances.

Wherever they perform, Void Where Prohibited gets people dancing, singing, and sharing the band’s genuine enthusiasm for classic rock.
