A Cool Stick is a Baltimore based Hip-hop band that combines live instruments with intelligent lyrics. Their creativity and work ethic has warranted the group much success and recognition including opening slots for Drake, Sammy Adams, Big Sean, and Citizen Cope, as well as recent recognition as "Baltimore's Best Hip-Hop Act" by the Baltimore City Paper. Consistently playing shows in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington DC, the band has every intention of expanding the list in 2011. With high-energy live shows and quality studio releases, ACS continues to generate thousands of downloads, gaining fans wherever they perform.
Front man and lyricist Luke O'Brien leads A Cool Stick, possessing a stage presence and energy that becomes more infectious as the crowds grow. Behind Luke are three musicians whose chemistry and bond has developed exponentially since the bands birth in 2009. With Matt Wong on bass, Brian Aranda on drums, and Sean McKeon on guitar, the band puts together an innovative, high-energy live performance that pushes the boundaries of Hip-Hop.

They combine rock, funk, reggae, and hip-hop along with hints of other genres to create a solid and unique sound. Proverbial band is known for bringing the heat in their heartfelt, high energy, get off your ass and move live show. They rev concert goers with big in-your-f
ace rock songs, then chill them out with mellow reggae grooves, only to re-ignite the crowd with catchy, upbeat hip-hop and funk to dance to. Audiences don’t stop moving from beginning to end as the Proverbial band septet keeps the fans guessing at what is coming next. One might even catch a freestyle jam, complete with lyrics, that sounds like a rehearsed song when it is actually being created live.
Proverbial members are Thomas Whitesell (saxophone, vocals), Phillip Walker (keyboards, vocals), Stephen Holicky (lead guitar, vocals), Michael Keeter (rhythm guitar, vocals), Ryan Harlowe (drums), Scott Gerry (bass guitar), and Kevin Condrey (auxiliary percussion). Proverbial boasts a 4-0 record as the reigning Richmond battle of the bands champion. They have won every contest they’ve entered including Spectra Records “Last Band Standing” in which they beat out 40 of the mid Atlantic’s best bands. Opening for acts such as Sublime with Rome, Switchfoot, Chevelle, Flobots, Crash Kings, Papa Roach, Paper Tongues, Tribal Seeds, and The Bridge along with other large acts, this band shows no signs of slowing down as they continue make a name for themselves and spread that Proverbial sound.
Keep your eyes and ears open as they continue to spread the Proverbial sound
