The Please Please Me
Jessie Torrisi played drums in a dozen New York rock bands before finding her true calling -- performing feel-good heartbreak songs, singin' at the top of her lungs, and evoking the kind of mayhem the Please, Please Me is known for.
With cello, lots of drums, hip swiveling, and YOU the audience on kazoo, their show is not to be missed.
Indie pop at its best, their debut album was awarded “Best Americana Album” (Amplifier, Village Voice), year's most exciting debut (Swamp Record) & continues to be featured all over the place.
Novelty Daughter is the project of Brooklyn-based musician Faith Harding -- one that unites a childhood of jazz training in vocals and piano, countless Wednesday nights spent at Los Angeles’ beat scene fortress Low End Theory, and formative time spent in Berlin’s warehouses.
The result of this stylistic wanderlust is music that strives to contain the best of the various worlds Harding inhabits—loop-heavy beat constructions that are rich in texture, hard-hitting in delivery, and a devout consciousness of melodic intricacy and song-centered structures.
“Harding overlays her crystalline, jazz-inflected voice onto itself, with jittery, synth-driven grooves churning away below. She is at turns exuberantly spiritual, tenderly reassured and anxiety-ridden.” - NYTimes
Absent City is the new project from Henry Freedland (formerly of dream-pop band Tiger Dare) and plays starry-eyed indie rock in the vein of Galaxie 500 or The Clientele.
