Incivilty! Dissent is Patriotic.
Almost one year ago, we came together as a nation to elect the President most representative of our Disjointed States. Unite with us for an evening in which we unleash that most patriotic weapon in our arsenal of coping: DISSENT. A gathering of some of the shrewdest talents in underground theatre, all riffing on a single prompt—politics—to create an absurdist display of who we are as a country, and who we might be in the future.
Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned already, all you need to be considered Presidential is a solid background in the entertainment business, and an active twitter account (@incivilitysf)!
With Edna Mira Raia, Mikl-em, Nectar, and Ed Wolf.
Former candidate for SF Mayor and US President, Spencer Blackhart, MC’s.
Edna Mira Raia: Before the Itch
Fall into the surreal hole where your homeless neighbor lives.
Mikl-Em: Trump Transcripts Three Ways
Donald J. Trump is on the record. And while his tweeting draws outsized attention, those are not necessarily his best words. Mikl-em serves as a satirical chef, he uses Trump's own utterances (from speeches, depositions and interviews) as the main ingredient. He’ll serve up disturbingly insightful, if not incendiary, manipulations of actual things The Donald has said: a dégustation trio for the stage. With impeachment for dessert?
Nectar: Butterfly Gilt
"We two alone will sing like birds i' th' cage...
And pray, and sing, and tell old tales, and laugh
At gilded butterflies" - King Lear (V.iii.10-14)
A newly-anointed but rapidly aging King relies on a bright young Ministress to help him navigate a strange new era. A fairytale for grown-ups... as told by the Fairy who lived it all.
Ed Wolf: It’s Hard to Explain
Are we in these Terrible Times because we fell asleep at the wheel? Were we too confident, too naive, too trusting, too smug, too earnest, too narrow-minded, too righteous? Were we too much? Were we not enough? And now what?
MC: Spencer Blackhart
I am the man of a thousand faces, all of them dashingly handsome, and almost suspiciously presidential.
I am the man of a thousand words, to be arranged in the order that is pleasing to you and your views.
I am the man of a thousand values, each one more highly valued than the one previous.
I am the man of a thousand hands, reaching out, connecting, groping the waiting . . . hands of voters.
I am Spencer Blackhart. And I am what America needs.
