Join critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Dan Bern and songwriter/author Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers for a workshop for songwriters of all levels of experience and ability. The workshop is suitable for everyone from performing and recording veterans to novices who are trying songwriting for the first time. Play an instrument? Bring it! Don’t play an instrument? Don’t worry, anyone can write a song! Flex your songwriting muscles, and have a great time doing it.

A remarkably prolific songsmith, Dan Bern has released some two dozen studio albums, EPs, and live recordings since his first acclaimed Sony-distributed CD in 1997. Dan’s songs are always literary, sometimes funny, and often cinematic. And it’s not uncommon at a Dan Bern concert to see and hear fans unabashedly singing along to one song after another with no prompting from the stage. Dan Bern recordings have featured a host of artists ranging from Ani DiFranco to Emmylou Harris, and he’s devoted entire albums to baseball (Doubleheader), politics (My Country II), and little kids (2 Feet Tall). He composed over a dozen songs for the Jake Kasdan/Judd Apatow spoof-biopic Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and wrote the title song for Jonathan Demme’s documentary Jimmy Carter: Man From Plains. Bern also composed songs that are included in the Judd Apatow film Get Him to the Greek, starring Russell Brand and Jonah Hill.

Pepper and Sassafras

Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers, grand prize winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, teams up with multi-instrumentalist/songwriter Wendy Sassafras Ramsay in this dynamic Americana duo. Rodgers, also the founding editor of Acoustic Guitar magazine, delivers masterful band-in-a-box guitar work while Ramsay, harmonizer extraordinaire, adds flute, clarinet, guitar, accordion, and her quirky originals to the mix.

Based in Syracuse, the two musicians collaborated on Rodgers’ latest album, Almost There, which won a Sammy award for Best Americana. Now known as Pepper and Sassafras, the duo has quickly made a mark on the folk/roots scene. In 2016, they were selected as Best Duo finalist at FreshGrass and the New Voices winner at the Turtle Hill Folk Festival.
