Watch & Listen
The songs of Haunted Summer are dreamy and hypnotic, rich with orchestral strings and sultry electronic textures. With their previous EP, Something in the Water, the group crafted a captivating, ethereal musical journey through a nostalgic world of young love and long-forgotten memories. Consisting of husband-and-wife Bridgette Moody and John Seasons, who share songwriting duties in a true collaboration, the Los Angeles duo have shared the stage and toured with groups and performers including Taken By Trees, Islands, Deafheaven, The Polyphonic Spree, Coeur De Pirate, Olafur Arnalds, Carla Morrison, Meiko, Basia Bulat, Geographer, David J of Bauhaus and more. Their forthcoming full-length, Spirit Guides, was written on the road as well as recorded in several studios including Rancho de la Luna in Joshua Tree, Jim Henson Studios in Hollywood, Comp-ny LA, and studios owned by Ninkasi Brewing in Eugene, Oregon. It features an array of talented musicians, including (but not limited to!) Dave Catching from Eagles of Death Metal and Chris Goss from Masters of Reality (both of whom are on the title track). Spirit Guides comes out digitally September 29th and physically Sept 30th.
Bodies of Water
Bodies of Water is a group of 3-12 people (7 at present) that have, historically, played and sang a sort of progressive gospel music that some people refer to as "proggo." They moved to Highland Park in 2003, when they were barely grown, and put out 3 albums between 2007 and 2011, then stopped to engage in other ventures; playing and traveling around with the disco group Music Go Music, birthing various children, and making ceramics. This year Bodies of Water have recorded a new, forthcoming album and are emerging, blinking and yawning, into the sunlight of a new age. You are formally and officially invited to come celebrate with them!
Los Angeles duo, Livingmore are ready to emerge from their cocoon with their debut record, Ok To Land. Taking cues from acts like Rilo Kiley, Mitski and Jenny Lewis, and adding their own eccentric and optimistic touch, the indie two-piece have channeled the ultimate feel good album, Ok To Land, just in time for summer.
The band, comprised of songwriters Alex Moore and Spencer Livingston, who met in Los Angeles in 2014, have already begun to generate buzz from the HypeM blogosphere with the release of their self-titled EP in 2015. Drawing inspiration across several genres and from acts such as Garbage and The Kinks to Belle and Sebastian, Moore and Livingston write dreamy, optimistic songs that sound like, in their own words - “a mixture of Blondie and The Everly Brothers.”
From the childlike essence of trying to decide what to do when you grow up in ‘Cocoon,’ to the upbeat and straightforward ‘Never Slow Down,’ to the slow and dreamy ‘Transition,’ Livingmore’s first full length record is a lush collection of indie pop tracks with an underlying theme of optimism.
Their first single from their new record, “Cocoon,” is slow-burning, guitar heavy track, with flourishes of western-tinged riffs layers over Moore’s crooning melodies. On the inspiration behind the track, Moore notes: “You realize growing up isn’t just like, you’re a kid and then you’re an adult. There’s all these things in the middle, and it’s easy to get stuck in a phase in your life where you feel cocooned, in a way.”
The record’s anthemic title track, ‘Really Mean It’ is accompanied by an animated stop motion video created by Moore’s brother, Dillon. “We really just wanted to make a video that was totally organic and back to basics but at the same time unique and fresh. That’s kind of what this band is really about when you get down to it,” he explains.
“We never really plan when we’re going to write, we just wait for it to happen,” Livingston notes, while explaining the band’s songwriting process. Each song has a totally organic approach - sometimes born from Livingston playing a melody and Moore composing accompanying lyrics on the spot; other times with both of them writing songs separately and meeting in the middle.
“We can be reborn in all kinds of different ways, where now we feel like butterflies again. We’ve regained confidence in ourselves and are ready to move to the next chapter, whatever that may be,” Moore explains defiantly. Livingmore are certainly ready to emerge from their own cocoon - look out for Ok To Land, coming this summer.
Avi Buffalo is known in the world of Indie Rock for his emotionally-driven songs and explosive guitar playing. Accompanied by a slew of skilled musicians as his live band, Avi Buffalo brings to the stage an unprecedented presence of taste and excitement to classic yet contemporary experimental songwriting in today's world of music, while leaving the abyss of the human condition gaping for all to existentially ponder their unknown musical soul.
with projections by Mad Alchemy Analog Liquid Light Show
Mad Alchemy is an analog liquid light show in the great San Francisco tradition of Bill Hamm, Glen Mckay and Brotherhood of Light from the heyday of the Bay's psychedelic ballrooms. Principal Lance Gordon has been involved with this art form since 1971 and learned the essence of liquid projections from a former member of the Brotherhood of Light at 17. With a team of 3 to 4 people, Mad Alchemy typically blends 6 to 9 projections (all overhead), together creating a dramatic montage of color always moving and changing.
Sensing a renewed interest in this kind of projection 6 years ago, Lance has devoted all of his attention to reviving this analog style and taken Mad Alchemy on the road, completing seven US and two European tours. The most recent US AND European tours (late October, November, and December 2014) were in support of the Temples from the UK. Throughout the tour we performed in Iconic venues like the Forum, London; Trianon, Paris; Ritz, Manchester and the domestic greats Irving Plaza in New York and the Fillmore in San Francisco.
Mad Alchemy has a constant presence in San Francisco, performing regularly at the Chapel and other venues in the Bay Area. In addition, Mad Alchemy can be found performing at many festivals and other popular venues throughout California. Mad Alchemy has performed with the top bands in psych rock and several other genres. Just to name a few: Temples (UK), Toy Uk, Jacco Gardner (Netherlands), Graveyard, (Gotthenberg, Sweden), Allah-Las (LA), Mystic Braves (LA), Morgan Delt (LA), Mr Elevator and the Brain Hotel (LA), Radio Moscow (San Deigo), Fever the Ghost (LA), Moon duo (Portland), Woods (New York), Real Estate (New York), White Fence (LA), Chris Robinson Brotherhood (San Francisco), Motherhips, The Shrine (Venice Beach), Scorpion Child (Austin, TX), Blank Tapes (LA), Dead Meadow (LA) and the Buffalo Killers (Ohio).
When Lance Gordon first performed analog liquid light shows in the 1970's, he shared the stage with the likes of Roky Erickson, Big Brother and the Holding Co., Its a Beautiful Day, John Lee Hooker, Boz Skaggs, The Tubes, Tower of Power, John Cipollina, Copperhead, and Elvin Bishop.
