Marduk is one of Sweden's leading Black Metal bands along with Dark Funeral. They started out being a Death Metal band with Black Metal elements, but later changed to extreme, hyper-aggressive Black Metal. The band's main theme has always been warfare and anti-Christian. The band formed in 1990 with guitarist Morgan Steinmeyer Hakansson, vocalist Andreas Axelsson, bassist Richard Kalm and drummer Joakim Grave. In 1991 they released their demo "Fuck Me Jesus" and soon after, a second guitarist was added in Devo Andersson, while Bogge Svensson replaced Kalm on bass.

With a new line-up the band recorded their first full-length, "Dark Endless", which was released through No Fashion Records. However, the band was unhappy with the label and switched to the French Osmose Productions. After the label switch they released their second album "Those of the Unlight". The album also featured new member B. War on bass. A year later, in 1994, they recorded "Opus Nocturne" but with a few changes, Fredrik Andersson was brought in on drums, Devo Andersson was dropped, and Grave was resigned to vocals.

In 1995, Osmose Productions re-released the band's demo "Fuck Me Jesus", which at that time also was banned in seven countries. Grave left Marduk and was replaced by Legion (Opthalamia). With a new vocalist they recorded and released the album "Heaven Shall Burn...When We Are Gathered" in 1996. The album was followed by a live album, "Live in Germania" which showed that the band can make hellish music without the use of a studio.

In 1998, "Nightwing" was released and was followed by the war-inspired album, "Panzer Division Marduk" in 1999. These were the last albums with the label Osmose Produtions. They soon started their own label, Blooddawn, where they released the double live album "Infernal Eternal". In 2000, they returned to the studio to record and release the album "La Grande Danse Macabre", in 2001.

After not being able to play in the US (September 11th) the band returned and began working on their box release "Blackcrowned". It was released early 2002 and featured unreleased songs and others that had been recorded during their 12 years as a band. Drummer Fredrik Andersson left the band but was soon replaced by the young drummer Emil Dragutinovic.

Tours were played and the band eventually released their latest effort, "World Funeral" in 2002. In 2004, Legion left the band but was replaced by Mortuus of Funeral Mist. They also released a DVD, "Funeral Marches and Warsongs", same year.

Incantation

Legendary Death Metal act Incantation was formed in the US in 1989 by John McEntee (guitar, vocals) and Paul Ledney (drums). They were soon joined by Arogon Amori (bass) and Brett Mackowski (guitar) whom they recorded their first demo with. John was left alone since the others left and headed in a Black Metal direction. People came and went and in 1992 they released their first full-length album, "Onward to Golgotha". The second album, "Mortal Throne of Nazarene", came in 1994.

The band has experienced a wealth of line-up changes, but has managed to survive and continue to release albums. John McEntee is the only original member left, he has managed to keep the band alive.

John McEntee and his wife Jill (Daily) McEntee are also in a band called Funerus.

Abysmal Dawn

ABYSMAL DAWN plays aggressive modern death that combines some of the best elements of both black and thrash metal. The band seamlessly blends the catchiness and technicality of early 90's American death, with ample doses of atmosphere, melody and the brutality of their contemporaries. Pain ridden death growls, complex drumming and soaring leads all help make From Ashes one of the strongest debuts within the extreme music genre in a long time! Hailing from Los Angeles CA, ABYSMAL DAWN was formed in late-2003 after Charles Elliotts (guitars/vocals) departure from the long running local blackened/death act Rise. Soon after, Elliott sought to start an entirely new project with his former Inhuman Visions band mate, Jamie Boulanger (guitars). The pair recruited Terry Barajas (drums) and frantically began writing material that would soon invoke mass hysteria throughout the metal community. The bands first three song demo was unleashed upon mankind in October of 2004. It garnered the band critical praise within the underground metal press circuit, as well as earning them some high profile gigs. 2005 saw the band playing alongside some of metals most elite acts such as Exodus, 3 Inches of Blood, Krisiun, Incantation, Hate Eternal, Into Eternity, Exhumed, Aborted, Disgorge, Impaled, Crisis and Decrepit Birth, to name a few. Metal audiences clamored to see the bands energetic stage shows, and demand for a proper recording soon became overwhelming. In November of 2005, ABYSAML DAWN entered Shiva Industries in Santa Ana to start work on their debut release entitled From Ashes. For the recording, the band enlisted the help of longtime friend and live bassist, Mike Bear (Ex-Prototype, Artisan) to fill in the bottom end. The result is nine songs that pay special attention to not only brutality, but song craft as well. Engineered by John Haddad (Eyes of Fire, Phobia) and graced with the stunning artwork of Par Olofsson (Deeds of Flesh, Psycroptic), From Ashes assaults your senses and tears at the very fabric of your soul. Make no mistake, ABYSMAL DAWN is soon to be a household name among the metal community. Surely a force to be reckoned with, ABYSMAL DAWN have risen From Ashes only to conquer us all.

We have been asked a few times what Satan means to us, or if we worship Satan. To us, Satan represents freedom from religion, freedom from God. Each man is a god unto himself and should bow down to nothing. Having said this, we do not worship anything or anyone, but we do appreciate what Satan stands for. Freedom.

Black metal band from Dallas, Texas, US.
