Oberhofer

2012 is shaping up to be a big year for Oberhofer. The debut record by the Tacoma native, titled Time Capsules II, will be released on March 27th by Glassnote. This album is a bold and exciting statement for Brad Oberhofer, recorded in Brooklyn last fall with legendary producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, The Rolling Stones, Morrissey among others).

Emotion is what drives the psychedelic catchy pop rock tunes crafted by the oft-effervescent Brad Oberhofer.

Drawing on influences ranging from Brian Wilson to Descartes, the 21 year old is fixated on the idea of making philosophically minded, energetic melodies that just make people smile. After moving to Brooklyn from his hometown of Tacoma, Washington, to attend New York University, Brad quickly immersed himself in the indie rock community forming the 4 piece which is now quite simply, Oberhofer. Catching the attention of Glassnote Records, the band officially joined the labels' roster over the summer of 2011.

"A kaleidoscopic piece of chamber-pop, featuring pianos, harp, strings, and whirring keyboards, with Brad's heartfelt vocal floating over the circus below." --Spin

"Oberhofer hones his formula on the album's grandiose opening track, "HEART", which makes use of some sparkling keys and orchestral strings." --Pitchfork

"A sparkly pop debut that fits well beside works by labelmate Phoenix." --Billboard (Best Bets of 2012)

Bleeding Rainbow

When we first saw Philadelphia's Bleeding Rainbow at a house party in Texas earlier this year, their ultra-primitive live show was a bolt from the blue. Nothing short of beautiful bashing beats, mesmerizing melodies, and an overall crushing display of songwriting simplicity done right, when it seems so easy to do wrong. Just a two-piece boy and girl couple, utilizing a captivating and metronomic drum beat underneath a scaly and spidery, yet irresistible guitar crunch, it was impossible to resist then, and we still haven't been able to shake off the shivers they induced to this day. One of a handful of new bands with an instantly unique and penetrating sound all their own, Bleeding Rainbow drive a deep groove down the center of each well-beaten track on the Prism Eyes LP, creating the addicting and awe-inspiring hum of fuzz-laden pop noise that will have your heart palpitating in seconds.

The incredibly bright and sparkling hooks interlaced on each track of Prism Eyes, jaunt ecstatically between erotic and neurotic, with the wall of soaring vocals and stunning guitar/keyboard interplay knocking out hit after glorious hit. Scraping up equal parts scuzz-chug guitar and sugar beats never felt so good as it does here, further locking in Bleeding Rainbow's solid reputation as the pop masters that they've truly become. It's just track after track of chill-inducing, feverishly-angelic, heavenly dark pop hits that you couldn't remove from your head without some serious brain surgery, obviously letting you know that it's time to crack open that candy-coated skull of yours, and dump this record right in. - VictimofTime.com

Heavenly Beat

Texas native John Pena began writing and performing under the Heavenly Beat guise in the latter part of 2009. After a handful of unfulfilling and embarrassing live shows, John put performing on the back burner and began working on building a stronger set of songs. John emerged from his bedroom after months of leisurely paced recording with a couple of tracks that would become his first release on Captured Tracks in the form of the 7 inch single "Suday". Being influenced by nothing in particular has payed off as many have had trouble pinning the sound down as anything other than "immaculately arranged and paced" and "attractive music for attractive people". Thus again proving that just because you've heard a song by The Cure or Neil Young doesn't mean you have to ape it shamelessly to gain wide acceptance. Shortly after the release of "Suday" Heavenly Beat released the A side "Faithless" for their forthcoming 2nd single, igniting not only the blog world but the interest of the uninformed few who might have missed "Suday". By paying homage to no one but himself, John Pena's band has become one to watch in 2012.
