Breaking down the walls of his cubicle, Jake Bernard traded in his 9-5 for a chance to make light of the daily grind through music. Having the perspective of the other side of his life, Jake connects the experience of paving his own way, to sound waves. His beach-pop sound has been described as "intoxicating" by skilled Huffington Post penman James Gadsden, as it meshes the more colorful sides of Jason Mraz and John Mayer. This, combined with the incredible impact living in Philadelphia had on him, led to his November release of tribute "City of Love" - a critically acclaimed anthem for, and love letter to, the community. Jake eventually came to find that the greatest impact he could share lay not behind a desk, but on stage in what quickly became his favorite city in the world.
As he looks ahead to August and the next chapter of his life in Los Angeles, it's a bittersweet turning point. Philly, the city that gave birth to his career, will always be home. There will be more songs written, shows played, fans made, all a product of where he started. At this final show at PhilaMOCA, Jake pays homage to all of the friends, family, music community, and "Phamily" who are bringing this night to life, by making it the most memorable performance of his career.
"Jake’s relaxing yet enticing audible style has set him apart from others in the music realm. With his recent singles “City of Love” and “Fallon’s Song”, Jake demonstrates his perfect pitch and guitar expertise, while simultaneously displaying his ability to paint vivid pictures for listeners through the use of song." -James Gadsden, Huffington Post
Selected by Sam Duckworth (Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly) as the 2014 Recipient of the Shure Songwriting Award, Sophie Coran is a singer-songwriter and pianist, based in Philadelphia. At age two, Coran asked her mom for a “pi-na-no,” thus beginning her musical journey. Coran received her Bachelor of Music in Classical Composition from the Manhattan School of Music. Her music has been featured on WSTW 93.7, and she has performed at varied venues throughout Philadelphia including the Dawson Street Pub, BOurbon and Branch, and World Cafe Live.
Having spent the past year working with Philadelphia-based band, Darla on her sophomore EP, All That Matters, Coran blends her sultry, intimate approach with full-band arrangements. After recording and releasing her debut Better EP while living in London in 2015, Coran returns to Philadelphia with the desire to involve herself in another exciting music scene. Coran will be releasing the first single, “Jimmy” on June 30th. The album will be released in late September with a celebratory Philadelphia show and tour to follow.
"She captivated the crowd with her sultry voice, and had our hearts singing along to those bluesy melodies. Not only does she have an intoxicating voice, but her lyrics will cut you with their wit, and are wise beyond her years in that old-soul kind of way.” – Brianne Golden, Shoot Digital Blog
