Sam d'Entremont Saunders
Sam d’Entremont Saunders is delighted to play the Trailside with her friends Katie McGarry and Dan Currie for a night of original music, from cheeky folk to soulful country!
After years spend abroad in Ireland, Sam is always delighted to see familiar faces during her time home, and share her stories along the way. Exploring the Irish music scene as an audio engineer has been truly inspirational, and made her much quicker on her feet! With her home always fresh in her mind, Sam has been able to record a single to share with you “Small Town Heart” as a gift to Islanders for Canada’s 150 year celebrations. Sam hopes to bring her best stories to light and leave you wondering if her accent is now Islander or Irish!
As a greener Island musician, Sam wanted a little help from her friends. She was ecstatic to have these folks agree to join her! Dan Currie is a prolific guitarist and soulful songwriter, with his album “Heartache” available now at Back Alley. His songs paint nostalgic pictures many islanders will recognize as home. Katie McGarry is a country songstress with a sweet island charm that brings out the calm in any storm. Her album “Waiting On” has won a well deserved country recording of the year award from Music PEI. After spending a year exploring with their albums on her most worn in playlist, Sam could not be more excited to share the stage with them.
Sam Saunders is known for her bright voice and easy laugh. She’s spent the past two years training as an Audio Engineer in Dublin, Ireland with the Sound Training College, in partnership with IADT Dun Laoghaire. Inspired by her guitar teacher, award winning country artist Katie McGarry, Sam has continued to perform while studying in Dublin as an independent Singer/Songwriter. This years accolades include being supervising sound editor for Ireland’s most prestigious university animation program, singing for the Town of Stratford, and joining an LGBT+ choir. Also, all of her song writing credits for birthdays have been nefariously stollen by her arch nemesis Aliya, her five year old little sister. Stay tuned to vote on who the real music mastermind is!
Katie McGarry & Dan Currie
PEI singer/songwriter, Katie McGarry, has a smooth vocal sound that washes over her catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Her sophomore album, Waiting On (February 2014), provides a satisfying serving of sweet vocals, tasty country licks, and contemplative lyrics that help to justify the description of her music as being timeless. Katie took home Country Recording of the Year at the 2015 Music PEI awards for Waiting On, as well as three other nominations, including Songwriter of the Year and Album of the Year.
Her first album, My Side Of Town, was nominated for two Music PEI awards. She is the 2011 Music PEI recipient of the Lynn Grishko Bursary. It is awarded annually to a deserving up and coming female singer/songwriter from PEI.
Dan is best known for his rock & roll guitar skills, but is also proficient in country, blues, and folk. Dan’s known for wielding his mandolin, dobro, steel guitar, and of course electric guitar, with various recording projects and bands on Prince Edward Island.
Dan’s production career has grown exponentially as of late. He co-produced Waiting On with artist Katie McGarry, and Jon Matthews of Sound Mill Studios. He’s taken the lead in producing his third solo recording, Heartache. Dan takes great pride in his multi-instrumental recordings, in which he played numerous of the instrumental tracks himself. His most recent undertaking was a six song EP with soul singer/songwriter, Spencer Soloduka, acting as the engineer and co- producer on the colourful project.
Dan is a go-to side musician for Katie McGarry, Barry O’Brien, and Drea MacDonald, among other artists. He performs as a special guest around Charlottetown at The Saturday Afternoon Blues Matinee, The Country Jam at the Haviland, and The Blues Jam at the Sportsman’s. In his spare time, Dan’s busy with his role as lead guitarist in the popular local cover band Muddy Buddy. You will often find Dan strutting down the street, Les Paul in hand, with a mandolin strapped to his back, on his way to a gig.
