Chris Kirby

He’s a witty, spitey, pasty white kid from the woods of Newfoundland whose style is simply addictive. A cross between John Mayer and Mayer Hawthorne, Chris Kirby is a classy and stylish musician with a playful and mischievous side, and can out-rascal the best – and worst – of ’em… without even wrinkling his suit.

In the winter of 2013, Kirby threw a house party in St John’s, NL, brought in his favourite recording engineer Scott Hammond (The Blue Room) and videographer Brad Gover to capture the whole show both to film and tape. He auctioned off tickets via social media contesting, ensuring his biggest fans in the region were able to join in on the party. Then Kirby set up his funk band, The Marquee, in the kitchen and played the night away.

Upon hearing the audio mixes from the house concert, Kirby knew he had an album on his hands. Between the band’s dynamic liveliness and the audience’s energetic spirit, Kirby was determined to release The Kitchen Party LIVE once he completed a few other ongoing projects. Audio and video edits were a year-long process, and progress moved gradually between Kirby’s many songwriting trips to Nashville, Toronto and Los Angeles, and his projects in the studio as producer for several up and coming artists.

The Kitchen Party LIVE is a treat of sorts for Kirby’s fans – something to enjoy while he takes a little break from focusing on Chris Kirby the “artist”. Chris spends most of his time these days in studios, producing artists like Tyler Hache (NB), Charlie A’Court (NS), Keith Mullins (NS), RocketRocketShip (NL), and Brianna Gosse (NL), among others.

As an artist, Chris Kirby is a 10-time ECMA nominee and has 5 MusicNL wins. Career highlights include performing on tour with Wide Mouth Mason and Big Sugar, performing at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, participation in the 2010 CBC Song Quest program, and multiple festival and showcase performances. His productions have won multiple ECMA, MusicNS and MusicNL awards. Signed to Sound of Pop Publishing, Kirby is also an accomplished and in-demand songwriter, co-writing with Tim Chaisson, Matt Andersen, Phil Churchill (the Once), Shaun Verreault (Wide Mouth Mason), Eddie Schwartz, Stephen Fearing, and many others .
