Guy Mintus Trio
The International-NY based group led by Israeli award winning pianist and composer Guy Mintus will arrive to Rockwood's stage 2 to celebrate the release of their debut album! After three years of exploring their musical connection, playing many hours in rehearsal rooms, dark NYC bars and various concert halls around the US and Canada, the trio has finally entered to studio to make its first recorded statement.
The materials on “A Home In Between” are varied and reveal the wide range of musical languages from which the trio derives inspiration. With their flexible and highly interactive approach the trio creates a deep synthesis from Israeli, Turkish and Greek folk to film music, from straight ahead jazz to completely freely improvised parts.
The New York-based group features Israeli bassist, Tamir Shmerling, Dutch drummer, Philippe Lemm. Both Tamir and Philippe are some of New York’s most sought after young musicians having each performed individually with jazz greats such as Terry Lyn Carrington, Gretchen Parlato, Avishai Cohen, Adam Rogers, Gilad Hekselman, Winard Harper, Myron Walden and Kevin Eubanks to name a few.
The Trio has preformed at venues including Ottawa’s Centrepointe Theater, Fringe Performing Arts Center, DC, the Israeli Embassy, An Die Musik, MD, Rex Jazz Club, TO, Rockwood Music Hall, NY, among others. As keen collaborators, they have shared the stage with a wide array of artists including Opera vocalist Shir Rozzen, Hip Hop dancer Anwar Adae, Carnatic (South Indian) violinsit Anjna Swaminathan & the Manhattan School of Music Jazz Phillahrmonic.
