Das Energi 2017 - Saturday

Thomas Wesley Pentz, better known as Diplo, is unquestionably one of the most dynamic forces in music today. He is as much as an international brand (tastemaker, spokesman, curator) as he is a musician/DJ/producer. Year after year, he’s proven himself to be an ubiquitous cultural figure, consistently bridging high and low, mainstream and underground, with remarkable tact and reverence.

In 2004, after studying film at Temple University, throwing influential parties in South Philadelphia, and releasing multiple mixtapes promoting the aesthetic of his party, Hollertronix, Pentz cemented himself as a full fledged artist through his debut album, “Florida.” Receiving praise within the underground community, “Florida” caught the attention of XL Recording’s newest act at the time - M.I.A. - who partnered with Pentz to release mixtape “Piracy Funds Terrorism Vol. 1.” This pivotal mixtape (listed by the New York Times and Pitchfork Media as “Album of the Year”) helped build buzz for M.I.A.’s debut and boosted Diplo’s reputation as a scene-spotter, championing the mongrel pop of the global underclass to the speakers of American clubs. Diplo would continue to work with M.I.A. on her first and second albums, eventually creating the Grammy nominated track “Paper Planes” in 2007, which hit No. 4 in the U.S. Hot 100 Charts and has sold more than 3 million copies.

In 2005, Diplo founded label/culture lab Mad Decent to serve as a showcasing platform for the myriad of fascinating sounds Pentz encounters while touring the world. The early release of Brazilian group Bonde do Role remains a testament to Diplo’s aspirations, as their music helped define Baile Funk in the United States. Mad Decent has gone on to release music from a dynamic range of artists that include Santigold, Peter Bjorn & John, Rusko, Crookers, Bosco Delrey, Lil’ Jon, Gucci Mane, Buraka Som Sistema, Dillon Francis, RiFF RAFF, Baauer and Major Lazer. Coming full circle from his days of Hollertronix, Diplo has also utilized the label to produce the annual and infamous Mad Decent block parties – a series of outdoor dance parties/concerts that now span 19 cities across North America.

After multiple Grammy nominations, including Producer of the Year, and being crowned the #1 most streamed artist on Soundcloud in 2013, Diplo’s might continues to grow in 2014. Diplo’s touring remains extensive, playing hard ticket venues all around the world 300 days of the year, headlining the 22-city Mad Decent Block Party tour across North America, as well as launching the inaugural Mad Decent Boat Party on the Caribbean seas. Following the success of Diplo’s “Express Yourself” EP in 2012 and Major Lazer’s sophomore album Free The Universe in 2013, 2014 will see the release of his compilation album Random White Dude Be Everywhere, which includes some of his biggest recent hits that have been seen in TV commercials for Doritos and Fiat. His chart-climbing single “Revolution” recently broke the Top 40 Pop Chart at radio, making it Diplo’s biggest hit to date. In addition, Beyonce’s “Run The World” heavily sampled Major Lazer’s “Pon De Floor” and went on to sell over a million copies, further cementing Diplo’s place in the pop world. He remains the go-to producer for the who’s who of the pop music landscape – Usher, Snoop Lion, Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne, No Doubt, Beyonce, Madonna, Pharrell and more.

“Lean On” the global smash hit from Major Lazer’s June 2015 release Peace Is the Mission has garnered a host of accolades including reaching #1 at Top 40 Radio, a first for any independent label, being named Spotify’s Global Song of the Summer as well as the 4th most streamed track in history making it the most successful independent song of all time.

Diplo is truly a jack of all trades - he’s contributed to Vanity Fair, yields regular radio shows on BBC Radio 1 and Clear Channel Media stations, as well as his new show Lazer Sound on Apple Music’s Beats1, has modeled for the campaign of fashion designer Alexander Wang, released the coffee table book 128 Beats Per Minute and the documentary film, Favela On Blast, made a cameo in 22 Jump Street and starred as the host of the ?uestlove-produced VH1 show, SoundClash. Diplo is a dynamic and self-driven spirit with interests that span far beyond any singular culture or musical realm; he is truly the 21st century artist.

Dubstep duo consisting of Christian Srigley & Leighton James.
The duo formed while attending high school in Montreal as a hardcore pop-punk band, but later decided to move onto the more electronic sound of dubstep after simply getting bored with the pop-punk sound.
The first song to put the duo on the map was their remix of the song “Daisy” from the studio album Daisy (2009) by the American alternative-rock band Brand New, which was put on The Hype Machine, an MP3 blog aggregator website.

British DJ, producer and sound engineer.

In this day and age of music cross-pollination, Claude VonStroke sits at the forefront of all that is good, proper and most importantly, fun. He is just the same at home remixing Kenny Larkin or London Grammar as he is dropping multiple underground hits. DJ wise, his relentless touring of every major city, festival and basement after-party around the world has only enriched this unique perspective on music.
Raised in Detroit and now based in Venice Beach, Barclay Crenshaw created the quirky alias "Claude VonStroke" in 2005 and went on to become one of the most well respected label owners and DJs in dance music. His first release, 'Deep Throat' was a hit putting his imprint on the decks of DJs around the globe. But the real breakthrough came with double-header 'The Whistler/Who's Afraid of Detroit?.' The 12" cemented Claude's reputation as a producer to be reckoned with, crossing borders, genres and musical ears and is now known as one of the classic dance releases of the decade.
Since then, VonStroke has released three original artist albums, a remix album and several high profile mix compilations. Highlights include a collaboration with the legendary P-Funk bassist Bootsy Collins as well as a few number #1 & #2 hits on Beatport. Most importantly, VonStroke has kept it original, fun and funky.
As the owner of the record label, DIRTYBIRD, VonStroke also built an impeccable A&R roster signing (and even naming some) acts like Justin Martin, Julio Bashmore, Catz n Dogz, Riva Starr, Tim Green, Breach, Eats Everything, Justin Jay & Shiba San well before they broke out of their hometown scenes. Today, the DIRTYBIRD label continues to surprise and innovate in the underground dance scene, releasing an enigmatic combination of house, funk, dirty-bass and electronica. Staying true to Crenshaw's Detroit heritage, DIRTYBIRD donates 10% of its profits to a children's music school in Detroit.
A lot of the success of DIRTYBIRD and VonStroke can be attributed to a good attitude. Claude VonStroke does not scowl and look mean while he DJs. He does not pretend to know everything and he truly loves his fans. He is grateful to be doing music for a living and he knows that the reason people go to parties is to shake their ass and have fun. Catch him play at numerous festivals, clubs or even better at his legendary DIRTYBIRD BBQ series of outdoor events.

Based out of Downtown Los Angeles, Mija has established herself as an innovative and fresh new DJ/Producer of this era. Her roots may be based in house music, but nobody puts Mija in a corner. Her genredefying mixtapes and bassline productions keep the masses dancing around the globe.

Mija began her career in her hometown Phoenix, where she became a fulltime DJ in early 2012. In 2014 she was invited to perform on Kalliope, a Burning Man art car, at Bonnaroo Music Festival. It was on that car where she serendipitously ran into Skrillex and played a b2b sunrise set. Just a couple months later, Mija won a mix competition to play on the Black Butter Records stage at TomorrowWorld, where her set was recorded, and truly helped build a steady platform for her career.

Mija is quickly building a massive fan base from countries around the world. With her latest production "Crank It" feat. Lil Jon being released on record label OWSLA, she is making headlines on some of the biggest EDM websites out right now. This is just the beginning for yung Mija. She has national and international bookings under her wing in 2015, with the talent and drive to back it.

REZZ is a DJ/Producer based out of Niagara Falls, Canada. At only 20 years old, her unique spin on underground Techno has caught the ears of Deadmau5 & Skrillex, and made her a hot topic on music blogs & publications around the world often hailing her as "Girlsaffelstein". Having built a following through a series of free releases on SoundCloud, REZZ's debut label release 'Serenity' came out June 2015 by request of Mau5trap records boss Deadmau5. Her penchant for dark, eerie atmospheric tracks that exhibit maturity far beyond her young age is what caught the ear of Skrillex and led to her follow up 3 track 'Insurrection EP' on his NEST imprint. REZZ's ever-evolving and idiosyncratic electro sound is only getting bigger as proven with her most recent EP release on Mau5trap "The Silence is Deafening".

After joining the roster at AM Only, REZZ has secured herself a spot on major festivals including Tomorrowland, HARD Day of the Dead, Something Wicked, Sunset Music Festival, Ever After, Mysteryland, and HolyShip! among others. Her sound is as unique as her live show experience, where she is gaining a cult like following with every passing show. Having already garnered so much attention so quickly, the stage is set for REZZ to explode around the world.

Playing piano and various instruments since the age of eight, Colorado native Trevor Christensen is coming forward with a fresh perspective on music. Bringing his melodic background and technical training into his music, he works to capture everything beautiful in what people know as EDM. His last 3 years have been devoted to his production, and bring the ideas build up in his head from his entire childhood to life. His music is, what he hopes it to be, an experience: A captivating blend of moving bass lines, and soaring melodies. This is nothing you want to miss.

Dubstep/trap/future bass/electronic music producer/DJ from "LA to Tokyo" (as stated on his SoundCloud profile). Started producing under the 'DJ Swoon' alias along with a group called 'Monsters with Tiny Moustaches' back around 2013, untill mid-late 2015 when he started producing under the current name, 'Slushii'. Prior, he was a founding member of power-pop band Deuteronomy, and was their bassist/guitarist/co-vocalist from 2009 until 2013.

Since bursting onto the scene with their multi award-winning compilation "The Stanton Sessions" back in 2001, the Stanton Warriors' irresistible and inimitable sound has consistently remained the soundtrack to some of the world's biggest and best parties over the past thirteen years; from East London warehouses, Miami boat parties and illegal Detroit raves, to the stages of Glastonbury, Exit, Burning Man, Ultra and Coachella, selling out global tours and topping DJ lists along the way.

In the studio, Bristol's Mark Yardley and Dominic Butler have honed a trademark, uncategorisable sound that is at once all their own, but also utterly indefinable, leading to high-profile releases on XL Records, Fabric, Cheap Thrills, Central Station and Universal, alongside official remixes for everyone from Daft Punk and Fatboy Slim, to MIA and Gorillaz. This phenomenal output and remarkable longevity has ensured the Stanton Warriors legendary status amongst not only their fans, but also their peers, as they remain fresh, original and relevant; obstinately dancing to beat of their own drum and helping to pave the way for new talent.

2015 sees the Stanton's release their new album "Rebel Bass" on their Punks imprint. Extremely well received and reviewed, it cements Stanton Warriors legendary status.
