106.1 WTAK Presents The Black Jacket Symphony & Alabama Symphony Orchestra presents a 50th Anniversary Celebration of The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

The Black Jacket Symphony

The Black Jacket Symphony offers a unique concert experience through recreating classic albums in a live performance setting. A selected album is performed in its entirety by a group of handpicked musicians specifically selected for each album, with no sonic detail being overlooked--the musicians do whatever it takes to musically reproduce the album.

The performance is separated into two sets. The first set features the album being recreated as a true symphonic piece. The second set, which features a selection of the album artist's "greatest hits," opens in full contrast to the first set with an incredible light display and the symphony being much more laid back. The tone is set very quickly that the show will feature the high level of musicianship of the act being covered and will also be accompanied by all the bells and whistles of a major rock and roll show.

Alabama Symphony Orchestra

The formation of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO) began with the first performance by a group of volunteer musicians in 1921. That group would evolve from a volunteer ensemble to the state's only full-time professional orchestra. Today, the ASO is continuing to make music and provide vital services to the residents of the state, serving nearly 100,000 individuals a year through concert series, youth programs, and educational and community engagement efforts to fulfill our mission to change lives through music.

At the beginning of the 2015-2016 season, the ASO welcomed its new Music Director, internationally –acclaimed Carlos Izcaray. Maestro Izcaray will lead the ASO in a variety concerts each season, as well as play a key role in programming, community engagement and educational activities. As the state's premier performing arts organization, the ASO employs 54 salaried musicians who give more than 190 performances per year. The organization is supported through the ASO's Board of Directors, which consists of 60 civic and business leaders. The ASO has a volunteer pool of more than 400 individuals who are members of the Symphony Volunteer Council, Symphony 30, Greystone Symphony Society and the Youth Orchestra Parents Association. In addition, the ASO currently employs a full-time staff of 24.
