Jonathan Bates' solo project Big Black Delta was born from a several year hiatus from the music industry. After creating several EP's and one LP with the Los Angeles based rock band Mellowdrone, Bates decided to leave the band in order to develop his conscious and create a different style of music. He bought a laptop from friend Alessandro Cortini (Nine Inch Nails, Sonoio) and from there started creating a minimal, innovative sound that would transform into Big Black Delta. With the help of female drum duo Mahsa Zargaran and Amy Wood, Jonathan Bates takes you on a journey through space with a heavy snare and electronica sound.
They will be playing at The Satellite in Los Angeles on May 27th so do not miss out on the opportunity to travel to the cosmos with Big Black Delta.
"Best known as the stick-wielding hurricane behind L.A. greats Sabrosa Purr, and Big Black Delta, Mahsa Zargaran has been quietly crafting her own beautifully dark and melodic tunes that are finally seeing the light of day under the pseudonym Omniflux.
The Iranian born musical prodigy wrote, recorded and produced all her own tracks – eerily dark and complex soundscapes reminiscent of bands like Bats For Lashes, Portishead and even composer Clint Mansell.
With the release of an online EP, and an artfully surreal new video, this “female force to be reckoned with” has been catching a rapidly growing buzz among L.A.-based tastemakers and bloggers with a sound that is truly innovative, unique and strikingly emotive. " -The Sunset Strip Music Blog
Battle Tapes is an electro synth rock band based in Los Angeles, California. Founded in late 2010 by frontman Josh Boardman, the band features keyboardist Riley Mackin, bassist Stephen Bannister and drummer J.J. Bower.
Battle Tapes released their first body of work, “Sleepwalker” in the summer of 2011. The self-released six-track EP features the standout track of the same name, as well as remix contributions from fellow up-and-coming artists. The group released their second EP, “Sweatshop Boys” in the spring of 2012, further blurring the lines between indie rock and dance music.
Battle Tapes performs regularly in the Los Angeles area, at venues throughout Hollywood, Silver Lake and Echo Park, and is a mainstay and fan favorite on Moheak Radio.
The band credits Queens of the Stone Age and Daft Punk as major influencers, but strives to set themselves apart by mashing garage band attitude with pumping electro music.
